Need some helpful advice for Nergigante
So have got up to HR13 and have hit a roadblock with the Nerg quest. I went in and got him retreating 3 times but then in the lava area he stomped me bad. The 2nd and 3rd faints were painful to say the least.

Am running a SnS with thunder elemental damage but I'd like some advise for what armour people used at my rank. I wore a full Odogaron set as I'd read it was a reasonable Nerg armour set, and tbf I didn't get one shotted at all, but I also struggled to heal once he started to get real pissed at me.

I'd like to give it a few more goes before i send up the SOS, but any advice is welcome, bearing in mind my rank and it's limitations.

Git gud is obviously already noted... ;)

It's really just about gear and learning what your own best moves and Nerg's most dangerous are. That and if you're lucky, leaning on good teammates.
Keep trying, you'll get there.
Unsure how SnS works, but if you have maximum might (From some Nerg pieces) and you dont have your stamina up to 100% most of the time then dont use it.

With Nerg you have to play a bit more on the defensive side, wait for him to do some attacks before countering him. If you use Dragonseal (a passive on most dragon attributed weapons) it will help delay his spike growth, therefore less dive bombs attacks.

I have watched many youtube videos. Unfortunately they are using builds and things like Rocksteady mantle which are unattainable at HR13, and I can't progress until I beat Nerg.

never really used the sword and shield so not sure if i could give good advice. i do however feel the fight gets way more intense right at the end so be prepaired for him to go nuts once he gos in his nest

other than that make sure you have upgraded your armour with armour spheres and if you have them slotting 3 vitality gems into your armour can really give you a survivability buff while your learning the fight.

I used full diablos set and the only thing that I died from playing solo was his spikes. the diving thing is hell and all you need to do is try and dodge him.
I used tobi bow and killed him before he went to his final phase. you have to be patient and find openings really.

if you have vitality mantle, use it

Be prepared for superman dive when he has black thorns, because the dive attack wil; just one shot you if it gets you. Check the attack paterns like when he "digs" with his left arm and tries to send you flying.

Upgrade your armor to the highest level you can and just get used to him. 3 vitality jewels (as somebody said) are a good advice for nergi, that way you don't get one shotted by his dive when you have less than 350 armor

bring heath boost and vitality mantle, it's help fight easier

and just take it slow, nerg HP is lower than other elders (except Kirin) and you have 50 mins to kill it, just try to hit and run, dodge/block, don't just smash button

I don't think I've picked up a single vitality jewel - are they random drops? I think I have attack boost and dragon defense fitted to my weapon - the armour has no jewel slots (if what I'm thinkin correctly what jewels are). the armour is fully upgraded though.

Must admit I did go quite smashy bashy when I fought him, the first couple of rounds with him weren't too bad. The 3rd.....ouch.

Reading some good tips here though regarding palico equipment, vitality mantle and the whole hit n run thing.

I forgot to mention that my palico tanked him almost the entire time.
idk if I got lucky but I used shield spire and nerg often went for him...poor thing lol. you can try that too. the only dive he did was to the cat lol

dont even bother blocking its attacks when he has spikes unless you have guard up...
and just superman dive his dive bomb

Guard up lets you block skills you can't block otherwise, like Teostra's Nova. You can block every single attack Nergi has

I used Legiana helmet and mail to get that level 3 divine blessing. It procs quite often and it can save your life on certain occasions, especially since it's a 50% damage reduction which I find to be insane.

My advice is to not get too greedy, hit him a few times then back off. Try to break his spikes when they're still white, you have a big chance of staggering/tripping him by doing that. Once all his spikes turn black, he'll automatically do the divebomb. He also lets out a different kind of roar when he's about to do his divebomb, be wary of audio cues.

Lastly, you could pick up crystalburst from the ground, and use them to stagger him while he's trying to run away if you're in a zone with enough space. He'll stagger and instantly turn back to fight you again because of it. I often do that when he's limping away to its nest which usually results in me killing him with the mega barrel bombs instantly once he finally goes to sleep.

Since you'll only drop mysterious feystones right now you only have a 15% chance of even obtaining a rarity 6 jewel, so I wouldn't really count on that to obtain vitality jewels. Instead you could try wearing Ingot Gauntlets which iirc give you health boost level 2.
