Axe of Demons (diablos tree) is most likely gonna be your answer. Though imo there's not really a "best" weapon.

axe of demons will always be in the talk as the meta axe. But I personally hate having minimal white sharpness so I went with deviljho switchaxe, which is pretty much the second best one....

I personally go for Jagras SA for that exhaust phial and 3 aug slots as well as jewel slots.

This one gives THE most flexibility while allowing elementless jewel as well.

Against Elder Dragons, deviljho.

Jho... eaiest to farm and the best... beat diablos due to more white but loses out on elementless 10%.

Overall they are near identical dps on high res dragon monsters but jho comes out on top when they have 2 or 3 star weakness.

Bezelaxe, Deviljho and demon axe are all pretty good for dps. I especially like bezel axe cuz it has blast and can get infinite lasting white sharpness using teostra set bonus and handicraft level5. Deviljho is also my favorite dps axe atm cuz low maintenance due to high white sharpness and its dps is up there right below the axe of demons.

For utility there are only two options: Barroth and Jagras. Keep in mind barroth is way inferior to kulve taroth paralysis axe (which we dont have yet) so you may want to save your augment stones for something else if u plan on getting the taroth axe later on. As for jagras, I never really saw the usefulness of an exhaust phial, you can KO just as effectively if not more by going the dmg route with a power phial.

No such thing as best weapon in this game, every hunt requires you to use different tactics due to what attacks they do and what effect they have on you. Having the best weapon type against a monster normally means something that is weak to. Some weapons are useless against some monster due to monsters moveset or animation. Don't stick to one build, when you come across a new monster. Mainly elder dragons, you might want to create a new armor set and weapon. It depends what gems you have too, IM seeing a lot of people recommending weapons but most forget the build you have, requires the OP to have the same gems. Don't go down this route of the "best weapon" make multiple weapons. This way you don't get as bored too quick when you hit end game. Right now im trying to make every weapon ingame, my next goal is to make every armor. And as I do this grind, ive found that im getting the right gems for multiple builds. Good luck!

I use Barroth Grinder III since it's got a tier 2 deco slot for elementless boost. That plus 2 attack jewels and the paralysis phial make up for the lower DPS compared to Axe of Demons.

Daiblos CB + Artillery x3 , Magazine +1 and Guard up along with few atk/crit jewels is bae.

Axe of demons. what it doesn't have in white sharpness, it makes up for the ability to use an elementless jewel, which isn't extremely hard to find. Add in as many critical boost skills as possible to make up for the low affinity, and you got the best switch axe for straight up damage until Kulve Taroth relic weapons come (and even then, the top tier taroth axe is just a diablos axe with one less slot, but one more possible augment... and you need extreme luck to have this one). Handicraft 4+ and protective polish are recommended, but it already hits like a truck even in blue sharpness. hell, elementless is worth as much of a damage boost as the white sharpness itself.

Barroth is a solid choice if you want to apply paralysis, and is viewed as some as the best paralysis weapon in the game, although it needs investment in the free elem/ammo up to really show it's potential.

Jho axe is very solid too is you want a weapon with high elderseal, but hits really less hard than diablos without a useful status; its raw is 100 points lower, and it can't benefit from elementless, although it has a bigger white sharpness for the same investment as Diablos... and is far faster to obtain.

There is other really solid choices, but those 3 are the top picks in my mind AS OF NOW, each for its own reason :p
