You can catch a monster but you cant tranq with any trap .... does that answer your question?

You can capture monsters with both shock traps and pitfall traps.

But in honesty 50 hrs in you should be looking at what end game gear you should be farming, decorations etc... not finding out if and how to capture monsters....🤔

Well they're essentially the same thing, so yeah.

I mean trapping gets u more materials so asking what traps are best for capturing makes sense so he can farm more efficiently

you can capture with both traps, but monsters will build resistance to shocktraps sooner than pitfall traps and certain monsters are outright immune to shock traps, however pitfall traps take longer to set up, so just make sure to cap on your 1st attempt...

All large monster can be capture except for those elder dragons.

It should be noted that you can actually use Tranq bombs before the monster is actually trapped. If you put down 2-3 tranq bombs near the monster's head and then trap it, it'll get captured instantly, as long as the tranq hasn't worn off (which is a bit quick, but should give you about a minute).

Every large monster except elder dragon's like Nergigante, Teostra (and lunastra when she's out), Kushala Daora, Vaal Hazak, and Kirin. Elde Dragon's in all games must be killed as one of their special mechanics.

Traps - Shock traps, Pitfall traps, Palico traps, (Grimalkyne traps?? They said they will help me trap but I haven't seen it)

Tranq - Tranq bombs, Tranq ammo

Those are the only ones that work as far as I know

Grimalkyne traps seem to work like the vine traps in Ancient forest. So far I haven't got any captures with them so can't confirm if they work.

You can get some in high rank quests but to really farm them, you must finish the story.

I am not sure if you are in low rank or high rank but if you are in low rank, you will eventually need to fight high rank versions of the monsters and those have some chance for decorations.

Then, to really farm, you have to fight tempered monsters or elder dragons.

They are given in rewards as feystones which after appraisal, you get a random decoration.

Ok thanks.
I am slowly just working things out as I go. There is a lot to this game, but also not very much
