Different region servers?
will their be servers for each region like EUW/NA/ASIAN.. or only one server for all players,it might create some ping problems.

i think for all players, but there wont be ping problems. Its not PvP

on the consoles you don't pick a server, you just play with everyone and it was fine. There are countless times I played with people from three different regions at the same time with no issue.

I hope it works that nicely on Steam. I expect all steam players will be able to play with all other steam players.

And my guess is that for the consoles, they have datacenters to help with matchmaking all over the world. I think matchmaking is the only real thing you connect to their servers for. And maybe the gathering hub.

Once you are in a MP hunt though I believe it is P2P.

Servers handle matchmaking and probably the squad sessions

Hunts would be p2p

it should not in my opnion... all p2p games i played were terrible as soon as someone overseas joined or from russia or somewhere else further away it started lagging for everyone. imho dedicated servers would be the best way, but coming from a console game im almost certain it has p2p

Uh, you get to choose who you play with
So i really dont think thats gonna be a problem

And no, dedicated servers would not be the best for this type of game
Even the consoles dont use dedicated servers from what ive heard

well the past games ive played never let anyone choose from where to play with. you could choose europe, but still someone with like 300 ping was able to join and make everyone lag :P

and dedicated servers would eliminate that problem, if a russian guy then joins on the same server, hes the one with issues, not everyone else. just my 2 cents =)

but since i got my old class mates who i will be playing with, i wont run into any of those issues :D

i dont undertstand ur point how does game not being pvp justify that people wont lag... i played ffxiv alot and it lags like hell in dungeon if ur ping is above 150 so yeah there is that

exactly, in fact there are many twitch clips already from the console versions where monsters lag or hoover into a different place aswell or just derp out. has nothing to do with pvp or pve, lag can always be there

I won't say it never could lag, but with all the hours I put into the Ps4 version, it did a great job even when you played with overseas folks.

Not sure if the matchmaking servers take ping into account or not.

I think what Kirito was trying to say is that you certainly DON'T observe minor lag in PVE as much as you would in PVP. In PVP small lag might result in life or death, but when you are all focused on a big monster you won't notice or know exactly what your teammate was supposed to be doing anyway.

If they are a half second, or even a second or two off you'd have no clue and it ultimately won't impact your gameplay. More extreme lag of course could still be an issue.

I didn't observe monsters popping around or anything like that, so I wouldn't be surprised if their netcode was designed to gracefully keep that to a minimal.

PS4 used the PS Network for Multiplayer
When the PSN was down people were still able to play SP, just no Co-Op till PSN went back up

So thats only as far as needing Online should go
