Rather significant difficulty spike to High Rank.
Hi guys, I beat the Pukei Pukei and followed some ???? Rathian scales. But the difficulty spike from low to high rank is quite significant. Is there a particular pathway or order I can do these things in to make it easier? I tried to hunt a great girros and got mercilessly destroyed even though I was fully buffed.

Transitioning from rank to rank is always difficult at the start.

Just grab high rank Great Jagras armor, that'll hold you over.

yeah as stated before. the jump from low to high is alot although i dont think its that huge. and the jump from high rank to masters is big.

HR is when you are supposed to start working on your equipement. Upgrade your armor, start paying attention to armor skills. For example, Jyra-a boots give you fortify-2, which is insanely useful for weapons with gauge like CB or SA. Jagras pants have fortify, which is especially useful in expeditions. Bone set has bunsh of useful skills such as health boost and attack boost.
Also, monsters start hitting like a truck, so this is a good time to learn how to avoid damage rather than face tank it.
And you can always "cheat" with the new guardian set, though I would not recommend it.

monster have faster chain animations as you progress in rank. Just be on your toes and get use to different monster's animation. Once you get use to it you will dodge majorties of their attacks.

P.S as others mentioned, upgrade your armor if you have problem soaking

Yeah i can understand you. Died to hr diablos like 8 times last night. It was harder than killing my first nergigante. You have to pay attention to loadouts , skills , mantles , etc.

yep. High rank means, 'tutorial is over, *throws you to the wolves*'

and don't you worry. it'll feel like you're getting busted back down to private every new 'tier' of monsters you reach.

anyway. i'll give you a piece of advice a buddy gave me back when i started,

equip any entomologist jewels or armor you might have, head to rotten vale and kill the hornetaur bugs that knock you over. that armor is actually incredible for taking down your first few high rank monsters =)

Make some throwaway set for now(I think I did Zorah Magdaros for the beginning of HR) and slowly walk through the story. Pay attention to the new sets you unlock and start planning how to mix and match them for your next set down the line. Or just use catch up defender gear. It's there so you can trivialize the game I guess. Also upgrade weapons whenever you can.

This is my first MH game, and I totally feel you OP.
I have just finished the main story line when they released the Defender gears.
Which of course I took advantage of until Iceborne came out.
But I also played around with other HR weapons and (mixed) armor sets.

If you're hitting progression walls, may I suggest crafting a Divine Blessing charm?
That should come in handy. Slot in a Fortify jewel to your gear too!

With going to HR and MR, I just went to the punching bag (jagras) and beo (MR). They're both easy and just having that extra defence will help you out early on while you farm for the stuff you want.

Same here with Zora armor starting HR its insanely easy to get ahold of and really helps quite a bit for farming a set you actually care about lol.
