So like am I doing something wrong?

IDK wtf is going on but every monster I fight 1 shots me regardless of gear/armor/anything

I had over 500 defense and 30 ice resist and the Barioth or w/e it is kills me 1-2 hits if the first hit doesnt kill me i go flying into him/her just jumping onto me and then im dead instantly.

Like I just don't understand, Ik im rusty at this game since I havent played in a while but there is no way everyone else plays perfectly and never gets hit.

I feel like there is something im doing wrong but I cant for the life of me figure it out.

EDIT: Thanks everyone, I thought only the new Iceborne monsters were MR level and was not aware that you can fight MR level of everything for gear, made some random set and hopefully that makes my life better.

If you are still using HR armor you are making a mistake. Health Boost also helps.

Depending on what HR gear, Drachen can take you to 4 star MR quests if you are good enough.

Yea but how am I supposed to get MR armor when I cant even get past MR 3 main story quest

Slot Health Boost 3 and use a Max potion at the start of every hunt. Also, consider bringing Mandragora and Mega-Nutrient to craft Max potions on the spot for instant healing.

Make any of the armor you have. I was able to make just random sets prior to killing it and putting in defense decos gave me over 800 armor. Made the Barioth stop 2-3 shotting me.

You should be able to handle MR Jagras.
I personally made myself big sheep armor which carried me through barioth fight very well.
My GF went with Bao alpha fully upgraded with divine blessing 3/3 and it worked wonders for her too.

You aren't going to speed run anything while learning new MR monsters, so might just as well go all out defence and make learning easier.

You don't even need to finish the first MR hunt to farm up MR gear.

Once you have the map unlocked and have to hunt that frozen tuna, you also unlock a Great Jagras hunt and the map itself to explore. That allows you to farm for the about 3 different MR armors without needing to finish a single MR quest.

You'll be without skills for a bit but that is well worth the trade of being able to survive in general.

So I didnt realise that you can get MR gear for anything, I thought only the new iceborne monsters were MR level....so yea..lol thanks just made some random gear I now have over 600 defense with it not upgraded so that should help a lot once I get everything else in place

i had true end game HR stuff so I was able to keep it for the first 2 quests but viper kadachi took off 60% health a hit so I had to bite the bullet and upgrade to MR Jagras Armor after beating him. You might need to do MR Bone or something if your defense is only 540.

odd. i am still useing hr armor and i am now supposed to slay velkana (5 star)

only thing i added was health boost 3 from the start and some elemental resist for certain enemies and thats it. rest is still drachen 4p and defender ls (now replaced to viperfang 2 finally) with mostly offensive decos.

its master rank. use health boost 3 first if you have trouble. but i was never 1 shot by anything with around 500 def so far. but barioth was by far the hardest fight just like console. he is just overtuned. literally every 4 star quest monster is easier to take down than him which imo makes no sense. all other 3 stars are also far easier. its the nerg case all over again where they toss you the hardest monster first for some odd reason.

I just beat Valkhana and I have only have 512 def, I am still running high rank gear with the exception of fulgur anja helmet but I honestly never had any issues with being 1 shot. I would recommend using health boost 3, it is required on every set especially if your not amazing at the game. Seriously tho get health boost 3 man, it will help so much.

see the trick to continue using high rank armor is, you absolutely cannot get hit in master rank. i myself have migrated to G rank armor, narga's spare shot has made bowguns fun again with evade built in and pierce boost. now if only i had a pierce jewel as well...

Well that's a nice lie, I haven't been 1 shot yet and I had 490 def leading up to Valkhana. If you don't like dying at half health try running health boost 3, its easy to get and should be on every set.
