Too much brightness
Anyone else having this? After the patch the game is too bright and turning down the brightness in game makes it look like you dimmed the backlight on your monitor instead of actually adjusting the brightness like any other game.

The game looked perfect before the patch now it's a muddy, blurry mess with too much brightness.

Idk if someone has a solution share it, otherwise at least let me know I'm not alone.

Check out the specialK mod and enable HDR tonemapping then set it to 3. It gives an amazing moody dark look to the game that is enhanced by volmetric fog (in my opinion)

I've been using that setting for over a year and it's amazing. Although it does seem to be slightly darker in some areas so it's best to increase the brightness up by one or two notches.

I don't think it works with DX12 at the moment and you can find a link in the last couple pages to the latest iceborne version.
I'll look into but I don't have an HDR monitor, nor am I able to enable in Windows and in game.

It's the dam bloom. I've hated it ever since the base game and I'm amazed that they didn't give us an option to disable it.

It's a tonemapper, it maps HDR colourspace to SDR. You don't need an HDR display to get better colours with it. It drastically changes the look and feel of the game for the better in many ways. Deep in the forest at night is incredibly dark where you almost want a flashlight just to navigate around. Right now I'm waiting on subtle scoutflies mod to stop them from blinding me.

Fixed it for me. FidelityFX CAS seems not to play nice with HDR or the game's gamma profile in general. Disabling it has completely resolved my brightness issues.

FidelityFX CAS makes the game look blurry with reduced image quality so I always had it disabled.

Change the dynamic range from 64-bit to 32-bit fixed for me. 4K HDR here.

If you have a nvidia card and have Geforce Experience installed you may want to try out the ingame filters, open it up with alt+F3 and pick lighting/contrast, increase the contrast and play around with the other sliders.
For me it looks a lot better now, it costs some fps though, for me about 3-5 fps on a GTX 1080.

The games contrast and lighting was changed (Ruined) If you read the patch notes it says how it was changed to appear more "natural" Frankly just made it ♥♥♥♥

oh boii, those excessive use bloom and overbright reflections. i've had it since the beginning

i'm not sure about special K, i recall the super bright blooms are still there even when i'm using one of the tone maps. unless someone made a mod to remove bloom and re adjust brightness, this problem will remain in the game forever, i highly doubt capcom would do anything to it. it's a 2 years old game with iceborne being the last expansion.

For those interested in what the tonemapper I'm talking about looks like, here's a couple quick screenshot comparisons with specialK and using HDR tonemapping at level 3.

The above comparison isn't great as the weather/time of day was in the process of changing.

I will say since the Iceborne patch, the overall colour tone has been changed and the tonemapping 3 settings is now a little too dark in some places. It also sounds like specialK won't be updated for Monster Hunter anymore. It also only works on DX11.

Personnally I solved it by disabling Nvidia game filters

No I didn't have it. Never tweak the settings. Always stick with preset settings. Or the graphic cards itself.

My question to you is how did you manage to reply to a post from Jan. 19, 2020? Did you think one day “Yo! I'll search stuff with the search function and reply to it!”?
