This is what the game looks like at default brightness:

And when I turn the brightness down in game this is what happens:

my PC is
Ryzen 5 3600 (stock)
16GB 3000Mhz RAM
GTX 1070
game installed on an ssd
Turning down the brightness also dims the menu screen, I have Volume Rendering and AA turned off.
you're telling me, washed out brights.
my card isn't compatible with dx12 so that might have something to do with it. theres a spot in the coral highlands that hides kirin's lightning for me as well if i dont crank the brightness down.
maybe i've never paid that much attention to it before on PS4 and PC, but this game always was a bit too much on the bright side, add some heavy bloom in certain situations and you're going blind.
i've played around with sweetfx before, but it never felt like it fit 100% so i kept it at default ever since.
But now Dark places are a bit too dark.
I've been using that setting for over a year and it's amazing. Although it does seem to be slightly darker in some areas so it's best to increase the brightness up by one or two notches.
I don't think it works with DX12 at the moment and you can find a link in the last couple pages to the latest iceborne version.
