It won't magically transform the game as the game needs more CPU power than I've got but it does reduce the amount of 100% CPU loads and resulting 4-5 second pauses I had before.
In fact, I've just limited the game to 30fps and it's playable at least. The game still stutters even with the CPU around 75% - so there are even more issues with this game.
I also had a 40 second pause just before it disconnected - but it recovered just I was going to kill the executable.
For some reason its not reading MHW on the list
Have you alt-tab'ed back to BES once MHW has loaded and clicked on Target?
You can also add it to a watch list so that you don't need to alt-tab each time you reload BES.
If you have to use 3rd party app to make perf better then disable background tasks to begin with instead of installing more of them.
Besides MHW is heavily CPU dependant and due to how many thread it spawns for no real reason it is also rather unoptimized.
If MHW needs (for example) 110% of my CPU resources it will always be at 100% CPU use. If I reduce that by 12% then I fall below the 100% ceiling. MHW doesn't perform as it wants to but it stops freezing my machine for 5 seconds every 3 seconds.
The game is now 'just about playable' for me.
I hope that explains its purpose better for you.
Other steps:
Disabled Windows Defender Malware component (running solid AV anyway)
Disabled/removed all mods (testing, most of the best ones didn't work anymore anyway, post-IB)
Removed SpecialK.
Still able to run with:
Reshade
Custom/Med-High Graphics Settings.
FPS the day before IB:
45fps steady
FPS the day after IB, before fixes:
10-15fps (at best)
*** Constant freezes, lockups, 5-10 secs every 30 seconds
Current FPS:
30-35FPS
Other notes:
Windows 10
Laptop - 960M Graphics 4GB NVRAM
i5-6300HQ 2.3GHz, 4 cores
16GB RAM
Nvidia 398.36 drivers
Yes, there are still some limited freezes., but they are now every 2.5-3 minutes, sometimes as many as 5 when the limits on MHW process holds.
When they occur, I alt-tab out, go into BES and either unfreeze or relimit the dumb MHW process as it's once again broken out of its sandbox and is behaving badly.
No one puts the MHW baby in the corner lol
My desktop isn't here atm (Ryzen 1800, 16GNB, 1060, etc.) , but the above changes have made it usable for mats gathering and expeditions.
I wouldn't try the more difficult elder dragons and the new IceBorne bosses with it running like this... For sure it would go sideways during those fights and you'd come to carted...
Also, I had remapped my keyboard as close as I could get it with the FORCED keybind changes they FOISTED on us yesterday, so it was sorta meh via kb+m. I had ordered an xb1 controller to test with, and I have to say, even after a short period, the game really shines (and belongs, for the most part) on a controller. The only default mapping that sucks on a controller is the one for sprinting.
On keyboard now, it's like I'm a contortionist <laughs>
This made the game playable again.
Thanks for the Hint!
