**Remember to back up your 582010 folder before hitting "download"**
I actually had no idea this feature was a thing before I saw this topic;

Unfortunately, he did. Though he does have the backed up game save. The cloud did save over the save file with the new game though, so I'm trying to work out how to force the game to recognise the old save.
nomotg has MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD 7 hours ago
I recovered my character by unofficial way.
I am not responsible for any problems that may arise from following this method.
If you have initialized the save file, or if the modified date of the save file is today, this method may not work. The modified date of my save file was September 15, 2018.
1. backup and copy your old save data from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[????]\582010\remote or https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=582010
2. download MHWSaveTransfer from https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/751?tab=files
3. download normal save data from https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterworld/mods/1886?tab=files
I will move my character to this file.
4. run MHWSaveTransfer
5. File - Open SaveData - Select normal save data in step 3
6. Change SteamID to yours. The number in your profile page address url is your SteamID.
7. File - Import Save Data - Select your old save data in step 1
8. Use drag and drop to move your character to the left.
9. File - Save SaveData - Save file to any directory and copy to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[????]\582010\remote
10. run game
11. Since the settings have been initialized, and errors related to keyboard settings may occur. You need to reset the settings. You need to change language setting first and reset the settings. (tip: Ja = yes)
12. done.
This is with the Iceborne dlc not enabled, or installed.
We got it closer, we think. Did you have the iceborne dlc enabled or disabled when you got it to work?
Currently the game just crashes while trying to load the save now, rather than it complaining that it's incompatable
And then a black screen.
BUT then after a minute or so of the black screen, It told us to fix our keyboard settings. To which we set to default for everything. This worked. His old save file exists and works now.
We had to make sure that the iceborne dlc was enabled.
Also first some great news for a lot of you that think your file is lost. The game created a back up for you when you first launched iceborne. In steam, right click monster hunter>manage>browse local files. In there is a folder titled savedata_backup. Inside is a SAVEDATA1000 file. At the very least try this, it'll take 10 minutes and you might recover your lost save.
Download both the iceborne ready file and that save transfer tool. Note there is a PS4 to PC transfer tool, that is the wrong tool, that won't work. I had this issue earlier.
Open the save transfer tool.
Open your back up file.
Click change steam ID.
Copy the number there.
Click clear workspace.
Open the downloaded file.
Click change steam ID and paste the one you just copied.
Import your back up file.
Drag your old character from the right to slot 2 on the left. Not sure if it matters that it's slot 2 but some people said so.
Save file into your monster hunter world remote save data location.
Launch the game.
You should now get a message about corrupt keybindings. This means success.
Click ok, you will then be in a loading screen for like 4 minutes.
Reset the keybindings back to default or whatever you want them to be and close the keybindings.
Get to the main menu.
Go to options.
Go to language.
Set it to english (the provided file is german).
Click ja (yes).
The game will restart, tell you your keybindings are corrupt, but go on to the main menu in english.
Load up the game for your character.
Make sure it's all working fine then save.
Problem solved.
You can probably then delete the character in slot 1 that I assume is cause of the keybindings issue (probably has german characters bound). Haven't tested this though.
I got stuck on that black screen for half an hour, no prompts to rebind after I was told I had corrupted data and bindings.
Did you play with any mods? If not I'd say try it again and if that doesn't work you might have a separate issue. If you did use mods then thats another issue that I think can be solved be deleting nativePC folder but I don't even know where that would be since I did not use any.
With your explanation, I'm unsure what steamID number I am meant to use. I used the one that the save file gave me, should I change it to the Steam ID of my own game?
Edit: I also saved the edited file as SAVEDATA1000 was that correct?
