for what it's worth, the story is the least important aspect of the game in terms of actual gameplay, since you're only able to run the story quests once. the real meat of the game is in the optional and event quests which don't have cutscenes of any kind!
still tho, your reasoning is totally valid bc the story/cutscene stuff was so badly executed imo
it's not petty to refrain from spending money on a product you know you won't be totally satisfied with. even if it is a minor thing, it's still an annoying feature.
It's just a really odd way of handling multiplayer in a game where playing with others is one of the main selling points. Hopefully it will be improved in the sequel.
