SpecialK?

People recommend installing SpecialK to make performance more stable, but I checked the authors github and gitlab only to find an unmaintained pile of confusion.


Does anyone have any idea what's the best way to use SpecialK, or if it's even needed at all?

SpecialK is the only reason my nephew can run MHW with his pentium. Whenever he loaded a map, he had his screen frozen for so long, that the game kept kicking him out of the quest. I then installed the SpecialK to check and he could play the game. If you have a low end PC, this is a must-be.

"Only if you're experiencing super high CPU usage" That's the default state of the game.Everyone should run specialk mod.It doesnt just help low end cpu's but also helps with framepacing issues with ANY cpu.

I have a 3950x/2080ti, so far no problem with performance.

I'm looking for ways to increase performance or increase the consistency.

And as such I'm unsure which version of SpecialK I should even use, because in the authors documentation everything is out of date and very disorganized. Nightmare to even understand what's going on.

You usually want to enable the "Limit Job Threads to number of CPU cores" to PHYSICAL CORES

so since 3950x is 16 core I limit to 16?

You don't need special k with a 16 core/32 thread cpu. You've got enough threads for the game to give each of its normal work threads its own cpu thread.

Hell, I don't even use it on my 2700X and that's only 8c/16t.

Only if you're cpu bottlenecked by lack of threads.

Hell, special k can make things worse if you use its frame limiter instead of the game frame limiter. For some reason, that exponentially increases load times.

Since you have a high-end CPU, SpecialK won't help you in anyway. It might actually make performance worse for you. Don't use it.
