How do people heal so much while attacking?
Is it the health augmentation you put on the weapon or am I missing something?

yes the health augment has you heal a percentage of the damage you deal so just about anything other than bow and pierce / spread bowguns can heal a nice chunk through attacking alone.

Ye health aug is pretty great.
Nergi set bonus can also do it, but it's not nearly as good.

To elaborate, the reason it doesn't work well for bows and pierce and spread ammo on bowguns is that it only procs for the first projectile of each attack, despite the attacks containing 5-6 projectiles, so you heal very little. It works decently for normal rapid fire, because you're still hitting pretty hard with that first projectile (I'm not sure whether the following 2 count).

You can heal several times from a pierce shot (seems to proc about every 3rd or 4th tick), though It's still not very practical since the numbers are still low. Maybe worth it on a Rarity 6, probably isn't on a rarity 7 or 8.

I have it on my personal favourite HBG the Baan Roar, and it's nice to recover some of the chip damage, along with healing around 1/4-1/2 my health bar on a wyvernsnipe (It's a bit random though, since it'll depend which ticks proc the heal).

go put 2 health augment on CB/GS and you will see it go up to full with one ulti swoop.

can you put more than one? isn't it one per weapon?

You can put 3 in if you want and have the slots for it (at least, for PC's current state, Not sure if/how it changes in Iceborne).
Iirc it's 10% of damage dealt for 1 augment, 15% for 2, and 20% for 3.

The best charging shell gunlance is R6 because it has three slots for health augment.
