heres how i got it.
on wasteland map just look for the dinos, then turn around and turn your camera away from them so you are not looking at them, then theres a chance the birds will appear.
just look it up.

look at backs of large herbivorous monsters in area 1 of ancient forest, and wild waste.
no birdies on a back? end expedition on the spot and move to the opposite expedition area. each swap takes about 20 seconds, searching area 1 of AF takes ~10seconds among the 3 groups of passive mobs. In WW you can spot them immediately upon leaving the camp, only 1 mob.
repeat.
took me ~70 or 80 tries before they finally showed up in AF on the right most (towards the ocean) pack of monsters.
