Pukei... are you okay?

I was just going about my hunterly business, slaughtering the local wildlife in the name of ecology, when halfway through butchering a Pukei-Pukei I noticed something was horribly wrong.

His weird head-flaps were completely missing, and his irises were so small you could see the whites of his eyes. It was the creepiest thing I'd ever seen. I suspected it was a glitch, and tried to get a picture, but before I could get a screenshot, he ran away and when I caught up he was back to normal.

I had thought that I had completely lost my mind or something until about a week later the same thing happened. And this time I have pictures.

Now, perhaps I was just inattentive or blinded by bloodlust, but I've been playing this game since day one of the PS4 release, and I have NEVER seen a Pukei do this. I can't tell whether or not this is a glitch, though I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the same thing. I nearly lost my ♥♥♥♥ when I saw those eyes.

Well mushrooms exist in the game, and in nature dolphins get high off of puffer fish, maybe you found a puk that was showing how they start off and then begin a miserable life of puking poison from their addiction?

But no seriously Idk, looks like a texture glitch of maybe programming in the game is deeper with sizes and looks? That's really weird, has a Kermit look going on. I'm going to post back on this one day if I see this. Perhaps it's exhausted? Came across another local roamer and got it's ass kicked? Some kind of status? Idk.

also I gotta get a rig that likes to run this game because i'm running toaster mode on an ancient PC (HOW?) and it doesn't look like that anyway. I mean all of it. But that mon is weird.

It could be a glitch but I've seen it quite a few times so I'm not sure.

Maybe it's in an un alarmed/undiscovered state? Just took time for it to rage? The monsters aren't really very agressive in this game. Sort of Roar and walk off while you mine if you don't mess with it. I've noticed some monsters I can wail on while it's going to sleep and it doesn't care (tail cuts galore, 2 charges and then the mega final swing, tail off lol, if it didn't come off before it fell asleep)

Honestly it's problably a bug or a texture of when it's not noticed. I don't really recall playing any MH game and I ignore the target. I just kill it. I don't know what it looks like before, I just know what i'm trying to cut off.

There seems to be a olive green version and a vibrant blue version. Both seem to go red when angry though. Maybe it's a male and female version, would be nice if more monsters had subtle differences like that.

Imagine even more RNG. Gotta collect crowns for both the male and the female version of the monster plus wow we'd double the roster right away!

I'll have to look around at this, noticed some odd things on some monsters but i'm running major low specs so I figured it was just that. My wife and I have been sharing the PC but think i've another one that will run.

Hey, reporting back. I've now seen this on nine occasions. I had once where it was like this during the fight, and my cat put it to sleep, woke up like normal. Oddly, each time a monster had been nearby (Anja and Ian) so i'm going to assume and unalerted visual that is meant to be there through like binoculars, and is a bug of not recognizing you're in a fight, or it's just an odd texture bug, but seeing as it is always on the first time, it's probably an unalerted thing. Like Anja's nosebone
