World has so many changes, it's almost its own thing though I'm sure you would like that too.
It has way less content however, but the content is the best it has ever been.
Chances are you would like both anyway, but for a more MHFU experience and more monsters to hunt, you'd probably wanna go for GU.
If so, you're more free to do so in MHW, but it can still be the same thign.
Quite a few differences. The one that has the better foundation is going to be naturally better though - but they're both decent games regardless, just MHW has less content for now.
MHW is a completely different beast, and while it isn't so different its unrecognizable, its certainly not nearly as close. The game is probably one of, if not, the easiest MH game in the series, due to many monsters having forgiving hitboxes and a few mechanical changes that are more forgiving.
All the weapon types that are in GU are in World as well, Arts and Styles aren't anywhere to be found, not as many monsters as GU so the roster is a lot less bloated, Item gathering is not nearly as slow as in GU or older games, the best graphics in the series (Although this is really minor to me), doesn't require you to pay to play online, because PC version, like GU would since the only version outside of Japan is the Switch version, and has much less jarring new monster.
Or part of your moveset is missing but you can now jump and do new aerial attacks and mount monsters at will.
Etc.
Nah, I mean styles. Guild style, striker style, aerial style, adept style, brave style and alchemy style.
*including deviants and clones. It has much more game on it than world, but still.
Personally I recommend gens first because even though it's a good game overall, I don't think I can go back from World unless it's imperative that I play it on the go.
GU actually does look fun, but I am one of the apparently zero percent of people who have never owned any Nintendo device.
