The gist of it is pretty lame, you just mass gather Investigations with the monsters you want to get a Mini, Silver or Gold Crown in and then just run them, run over to the monster, examine how big it is, and if it's big, murder it / capture it and hope it classifies as a crown. If it doesn't look big or small enough, you just bail and reload the quest again. Pretty damn lame, if you ask me.
The higher level the investigation, the more deviance the monster supposedly has - BGGG, SSGG, or Tempered Investigations are some of the most valuable for triggering more deviance in size. Supposedly.
Assignments, Optional Quests and Event quests don't tend to have much variation from the average size, but some event quests like Deep Green Blues have bonus monster size deviance built in, which obviously causes more chance of coming across a crown enemy.
I find them common enough once you start truly grinding them down that it doesn't matter anyway...but each to their own I guess. For the moment, if you want crowns, farm up Deep Green Blues - there's only a day left or so. It'll be back again eventually, but who knows when that'll be?
Not my nomenclature, not my method. I just posted it here. I was just curious how you guys tackle it. It's a trophy hunter method. So far, I play for fun but I have achieved most things ingame so I figured I might combine the crown farming with mat gathering or somehting else.
Materials and money from the triple threat throwdown were nice for endgame armor, I crafted quite a bit. Also, Deep Green Blues worked like a charm, thanks ^^
If you want to skip the events, you'll need to do investigations to yield the best results. As stated, investigations with silver AND gold rewards generally have decent chances - (coupled with strange modifiers to death counts/time limit/player limits). Anything without silver and gold rewards I would personally delete. Those investigations will have a chance to modify EVERY monster that spawns for the investigation as well. Tempered investigations generally have decent odds too, but note that you will want 3-4 rewards at minimum... the purple blocks vary in reward results and thus *could* affect deviance.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to look at youtube videos of monsters your hunting... the crowns are visibly smaller/larger models, and there are a few people that have perfect height ratios.
I've got all the crowns on PS4 and have finished most on PC already using just basic / non tempered investigations... it takes a lot of commitment and reloading - best to hoarde investigations and get used to savescumming.
otherwise event quests will roll around where you kill pretty much everything that spawns on that given map with a chance to roll a crown on any of the spawns.
