Hunter Rank progress bar not increasing
I'm fairly new to the game and I wonder why every time I finish a quest, i dont get any increase in my hunter rank. No increase on progress bar and its just my palico gaining experience. Is this normal or whut? Thanks for the responses ;)

Depends. What's your current hunter rank?

It doesn't uncap until you've completed the story. While you're going through the story (which is more of a grandiose tutorial than anything) you gain HR periodically as a way to show your skill and prowess as a Hunter is growing, etc.

Once you finish the story it uncaps and will explode up quite a few ranks and then just turn into an XP level type thing, capping again at 999.

It used to cap again at 29, and then again at 49 but I think Capcom has done away with that mechanic now?

The game locks your HR at certain points of the game until you complete a specific assignment, just keep progressing. You still gain HR, btw, once the cap is removed it'll jump up to what it would have been had the bar been unlocked the whole time.

You are probably 29? You have to do assignments to go past 30 and ..50?

Unless you unlock Master Rank in Iceborne at which point all caps are removed.

Hunter Rank is locked on some levels while you progress in main story, it gets unlocked after the final boss.

In that case you don't even worry about Hunter Rank, it will go up as you do assignments at fixed points.

At that point, your HR is only going up based on your story completion. It won't hit the first uncap point until you beat the final main game boss.

You've still got some story to be doing then, but don't let that discourage you from hunting up some other monsters in Optional quests and the like!

You're currently banking any XP you gain from extracurricular hunting activities, once you finish the story you'll gain it all in one hit. I don't want to tell you the exact HR when this happens because it might ruin the flow a little bit, and let you predict potential incoming stuff.

This seems to be the answer I'm looking for. I'm at the main quest wherein you hunt a Rathalos and a Diablos(A Fiery Throne Atop the Forest and Horned Tyrant Below the Sands). It's hard for me to clear this quest so I'm thinking of increasing my HR first :/

Ah, you're thinking HR is like leveling in an RPG.

It's not.

HR just denotes how long you've been playing.

The only things that affect your stats are gear and food.
