Once you finish the story it uncaps and will explode up quite a few ranks and then just turn into an XP level type thing, capping again at 999.
It used to cap again at 29, and then again at 49 but I think Capcom has done away with that mechanic now?
Unless you unlock Master Rank in Iceborne at which point all caps are removed.
You're currently banking any XP you gain from extracurricular hunting activities, once you finish the story you'll gain it all in one hit. I don't want to tell you the exact HR when this happens because it might ruin the flow a little bit, and let you predict potential incoming stuff.
It's not.
HR just denotes how long you've been playing.
The only things that affect your stats are gear and food.
