Easiest way to find it or is it all RNG? Looking all over Elder Recess and Ancient forest (16) and cannot seem to find it at all.

Yea I just got to locate one in general to get quests for it ect.

Pick up its footprints. They will help you find it and they will increase your research level with it. With high research level it is much easier to find a monster.
But if you are there in the story where you have to pick enough trails to find it, then just do other missions and pick them up as you come on them. You can meet it only after you picked up enough.

There are always three large monsters in one area. Check your map before you travel to Elders Recess but if you need its materials you're better off with an investigation.

thats the problem it doesn't have any footprints for this specific type. only regular monsters footprints that are in the map.

I can't investigate it, if I have not discovered it once. hense why I'm asking how to locate it. going by google it spawns in 2 areas elder recess and ancient forest (16) I've been searching for almost an hour with no luck.

There are 3 monster at a given time on elder recess, if map is full on exploration kill monsters it will free space for your rathalos to show up,or you can spam investigation with one target on elder recess and scout the other monster in the quest area,repeat until you find youre target.

If you never discovered it then you cannot just simply find it. This is a lull in the story. The game wants you to do other missions (like optional quests for example). And somemtimes you will came upon a footprint (maybe it will just named ??? first I do not remember). After you did enough other quests and found enough prints, you will get a quest to hunt it. That will be your first encounter with it.

Azure rathalos can spawn without searching footprints first ,i met him on my first elder recess exploration (story quest) with my 2nd toon meeting and killing on sight any monster.I'll get him after a while as the first rathalos spawned in the area.

You can also check with work shop the lady will give you a quest call the red and blue team there is Azure ratholas in it.

If you need some specific monsters, go see the pnjs for the requests an check the contracts, maybe you have one quest for these mobs.
