It's a lot easier and you have better control.
You aim manually.
i adjust my camera angle with the right stick
only set the camera angle from the back towards the view of the char with one button
and even then i didnt ask for lock on
this isn't Zelda mindless slashing towards the enemy
1: faster than opening up the map to select what monster for my scoutflies to track.
2: literally life saving instant facing towards the monster on demand.
Everything is so huge so you end up with a scenario exactly like Darksouls when trying to lock onto anything huge.
My first time attempting to lock on in this game gave me flashback to fighting O&S for the first time with a claymore, where lock ons meant my claymore thrust would "miss" a milimeter underneath Smoguh's taint.
tbh i been using targetting system all the time because I KNOW HOW TO SETTING IT.
There is only so much settings can do for lock on points being 10 feet above your head, and in only select sections of monster.
Are you so desperate for internet bragging rights that you're going to try and act like an infamously innefective lock on system is something to shout "I LOVE IT!" over?
Could be worse, you could be someone acting like not using a broken as hell lock on system is something to be proud.
"I didn't use the lock on system that makes it HARDER to cut tails off! I'm so hardcore for not handicapping myself!"
