Has there been any fix to how bright the lighting is?
Title, basically. Game itself is great but holy hell the lighting can be disgustingly bright at times, and I play with brightness turned way down in the first place. Volumetric crap disabled too. Has anyone found any sort of fix, be it in game settings or ini tweeking or a mod or whatever, to get this brightness to chill the hell out? It was NOT this bad on console

You are the first person I have heard complain about this. Could you post a screenshot of what it looks like on your end?

Coincidentally, my colleague just talked to me about the same thing - which surprised me because I didn't notice the issue. I'd love to see a screenshot, if you can post one.

The Coral area and the scoutflies are the only things that come to mind as being too bright. Maybe the daylight sky atop the gathering hub too. But I've never thought it anywhere as bad as original Twilight Princess (bloom everywhere!). Seconding that screenie since to me it seems likely your monitor that causing this?

Coral highlands extremely bright

You could try running ReShade and messing with the options on that. Usually helps more than in-game settings do to get the look you want.

Coral Highlands is by far the worst offender. Here are some examples of what I'm talking about, took this a long time ago. Any objects that are lightly colored and/or metallic are blasted with bright blurry lighting when standing in direct light.

character has white hair, standing in the light it looks like someone took the blur tool in photoshop to my head.

white armor, my shoulders are giant beaming headlamps

Go to an area like Coral Highlands in mid-day where the ground is mostly white, and you're just completely blinded

I haven't noticed this. I'll craft the Tobi Kadachi armor and check on my system if I have the same issue, at the same place. It seems like the bloom settings are wacko or something.

I tried to recreat one of your pictures, my character has black hair so I wore the brigade hat which is kinda white to simulate white hair. The glare on the shoulders looks similar but your shadows seem to be darker than mine. Maybe your contrast is messed up, I believe you can change that in the options.

Sorry, I just re-read yoru post and you said you have already messed with brightness. Maybe it's your monitor's settings? It just looks like your contrast is a little out of balance, everything else seems fine.

Bloom effect. You should toggle it to off, if the port would allow for that. But it does not, because we are living in 2012 apparently.

Here is someone else's example of the lighting/bloom

His weapon is freaking blinding. I love this game to bits but can only play in short bursts cause I just get a headache

That is really bright, I can see how that would make playing in the Coral Highlands a nightmare. It does seem like the bloom is washing out the contrast. I did some poking around online, it doesn't look like there is any way to disable. You could check the mod nexus, maybe someone has come up with something there.
I know I sound like a broken record here but I honestly think your only solution would be to physically adjust your monitor settings. I use a TV for my monitor and have it set to "game mode" and it does something to the colors to even them out.
At any rate good luck and if you find a solution let us know about it.

I ended up in Coral Highlands at the perfect time to show the bloom there.

Solid white ground, A+ port. They really need to patch in an option to disable bloom

Bloom should never be used by any developer ever. It is the absolute worst effect just behind motion blur. I too wish I could disable this garbage.
