i understand what you saying
i'd like to hear some IG users thou
Odo helm alpha is useless as none of the elders inflicts bleed. So are Zorah greaves, unless you're planning on a sleepbombing build. The skills given by Lumu chest and Kadachi greaves are ok but imho not worth wasting an entire armor slot for that. You can keep Lumu coil if you want more defense.
In general I would rather go for things that increase your dps. Nerg set in general is probably your best bet as it gives you dps boost, quick stamina recovery, crit bonus with full stamina and lifesteal as a set bonus. Add some decorations that give you flinch free and airborne and you'll be spinning around freely.
I would also consider adding some fire res decorations and doing the sidequest for the fireproof mantle because likely Teostra will be the fight that will give you the most issues.
That's primarily suitable for the Nergi weapon line, which doesn't need handicraft, protective polish, or non-elemental boost. It's a very basic line of skills (attack 4, weakness exploit 2, maximum might 3, plus a few skills I forget on the A versions) that will be greatly beneficial to any weapon.
head and belt bazel (for earplugs+4 and slot a gem for the 5th point... or 1 piece and a charm for 5 Any combo, but 5 points is pretty much all or nothing for earplugs).
chest damascus (for the 3 slots), or rathalos, or dober
arms kaiser or ingot. kaiser has Weakness exploit and ingot has vitality boost
legs dober for attack +2
charm attack +3
Honorable mentions: death stench legs + handicraft charm, eyepatch for weakness exploit, etc...
Edit: Sorry, I got a phone call. This build gives +5 earplugs, +3 weakness exploit, +5 attack boost, with room for vitality boost 3, stun resist 3, and a 6th attack jewel
Edit 2: That's 7 free slots!
Thunder (Kadachi), Water (Jyuratados) and Dragonbone Glaive.
When entering High Rank i got the Zorah Armor set (The easiest HR armor set to get imo.), it doesn't really bring anything to the table except for a boost in survivability due to being inherently better than any Low Rank set.
I used lvl 2 charm (Thunder, Water, Defense) depending on what IG i was using.
Kinsect; Pseudocath.
When i got to the Elder Dragons i farmed Kushala Daora to get the full armor set from that douchebag. (Looks super cool imo.)
Never had any issues with any of the monsters when using IG so i haven't done any min/maxing or anything like that. I'll be happy to admit i'm not breaking any records when it comes to kill times and such but i have fun and i rarely die.
Side note; I have not yet fought any Tempered Elders and i suspect it will be a good idea to start min/maxing when you get there.
I'm not a good player at all and it takes some time for me to beat monsters.
I haven't been fainted in Low Rank, but some of HR monsters can stunlock and faint me sometimes.
Diablos and Nergigante can 3-shot me and sometimes i don't see when i must roll out from their charge. So i need a good armor
Kadachi bracers helps a lot cause of longer roll.
I use Lumu chest only for skill, i can mount monsters like 3-4 times in one quest.
Odogaron helm is just for better armor.
So, here we come to question what Helmet, Waist and Greaves to use with best skills to fit Insect Glaive before i meet other Elder Dragons?
I'm gonna upgrade Kadachi Pillar 1 to Kadachi Pillar 2 to deal a bit easier with Nergigante.
I use the same except Dragonbone Glaieve - does it really good? Raw damage is just meh.
Thanks! But your armor set is almost endgame, but i memorized it :)
Those are endgame ready because they have slots.
With some minor exceptions, A sets are just throwaway stuff for when you don't have decorations yet.
Master mounter is imho irrelevant because 1. when you play solo you can still mount them 2-3 times very easily without the skill 2. endgame monsters are either hard or impossible to mount (Xeno'jiiva).
Keeping Odo helm just for defense is pointless because you can upgrade any piece of armor to get the same defense. You want to get better skills instead.
Also, if your dps is higher you will kill or stun the monsters faster, which will make you spend less time trying to roll out of their attacks. The suggestions above are all good and you should explore them. The only piece of armor you could keep is the coil because divine protection can save your a'ss very often.
@Moonmadness please advise some valuable armor pieces on Legs, Head and Chest BEFORE Elder Dragons.
any 6* armor can be upgraded to +/- 70 defense making it all viable so long as you like the skills attached to it.
id recommend earplugs, mount / jump, and attack / choice element skills as an IG user.
wind resist and evasion are also strong contenders.
so you're looking at, bezel, legiana, kushala, and nergi sets of equipment primarily. a good tier 3 charm can fill out those desired skills nicely.
Helm: Bazelgeuse Helm B
Chest: Nergigante Chest B * Vaal Hazak Chest B * Xeno'jiva Chest B
Gloves: Nerigigante Glovess B * Vaal Hazak Gloves B * Xeno'jiva Gloves B
Waist: Bazelgeuse Waist A/B
Feet: Nergigante Feet A/B * Vaal Hazak Feet B * Xeno'jiva Feet B
Charm: Whatever you feel like you need.
The Earplugs from Bazel should keep you from being effected by roars and lower the loud roars to only a pref stun to allow you to dodge any follow up attack that monsters have.
Nergigante's skills can help with providing some damage increase as well as stamina regan, plus the Health Recovery every fourth hit.
Vaal Hazak has the most slot available and its good for beginners with the health regan
Xeno'jiva can help with preventing other players from tripping you and it provides Razor Sharp with its set bonus.
I would also highly recommend placeing three steadfast jewels on them to help keep you from getting dazed in fights. This build is mainly focused in keeping your character from getting CC from monsters and allow you to be able to react to anything that is thrown at you.
i don't know what to use NOW, BEFORE Elder Dragons.
