Not worth leaving ports open just to play a game. Unless you are going to close them when you log out. Even then, just not worth it.

If being behind a NAT router was an issue for you, you would never be able to either host a session with other players, only join their sessions. In that case, yes, you'd need to port forward or use a uPnP router, etc.

And port forwarding by itself isn't a security risk unless there's some program actually listening on that opened port.
