Farming specific investigations.
How does this work exactly? I can't seem to get the ones I want. I'll farm Tobi-Kadachi tracks and I get Great Jagras and Pukei. I'll farm Jyuratodus and get Kulu and Barroth. Are they just random and me unlucky? Or am I doing something wrong here?

They unlock in tiers, I think. Possibly area specific too.

I.E you can be fighting a Tier 1 Tempered Monster and breaking its parts / collecting its tracks may unlock an investigation, it can be for any of the Tier 1 Tempered Monsters in that tier. Easy enough to check, there's HR 13, HR 30 and HR 50 Tempered Investigations - an investigation spawned by a HR 13 monster track, can only be a HR 13 monster investigation.

With investigations, you have to get them from the same HR for the creature you want to be included on that list, I believe. I don't know the ranks, but you shouldn't get an Anjanath from collecting Great Jagras tracks, because they're in different tiers.

I think. Don't quote me on that, though. Investigations are incredibly weird and unreliable at best - the only thing you can rely on is you won't get a Kestodon investigation from killing a Great Jagras, and you won't get a Great Jagras investigation from killing a Vespoid etc, because they're seperate types.

If you want an investigation for a specific monster and you're not getting it, and aren't adverse to online play, hit respond to sos, target your monster, tell it investigations only, and look. It's not the same as getting the quests yourself but you'll get quests to look at with the extra investigation rewards that way. I've never looked for specific investigations, I just play the story and do optional quests, here and ps4 version, and when I want to do an investigation I usually just have some of varying qualities for anything I want.

Also, here is a Threat Level list for monsters: https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Investigations

Another thing to add, most of the time people farming a specific monster for their investigation end up having the problem of not having the monster's quest completed in the story. For example, Pink Rathian. Pink Rathian is a 7* monster that you can encounter in Expeditions, but if you haven't beat Pink Rathian story mission then you won't have 7* missions unlocked and therefore will be unable to get the investigations for it.

Thanks for the advise, both of you. :) I think the problem is that I haven't completed his story mission yet then. I've tried joining others but I couldn't find any SOS in multiplayer for Jyu. Guess I'll continue the story first and see what happens.
Assuming you haven't already beaten double bagel, farm their tracks before you beat the quest. It's a good way of stocking up on some tier 2 invesgiations.

Same works for tempered kirin once you hit HR49

Any tracks you find in a specific threat level will always provide more investigations within that tier of a random monster. I think.

This is correct.

Also, any investigations you get from capping/killing/breaking tempered monsters will provide threat level appropriate invesgiations too

The reason I think it's because I haven't unlocked Jyu yet is because he's in the same tier as barrth and kulu and the like, yet never got his investigations.
