I have seen many pooping rathalos on may trips, but no crake appeared on my trips

For the Downy Crake, go to area 1 of the forest. make sure it is day. make sure it is not raining. make sure to equip your ghillie mantle. They will appear on the back of the herbivores there. They won't appear while you're looking, so turn your back for a moment. They look like white fuzzballs lining the back of one of the monsters. If you don't see any then reload the area and try again. If you do see them then approach with the ghillie mantle and toss a net. They are rare so you have to keep trying.

Found my bristly crake in Elder's Recess on the back of a gastodon. In fact I've found two there (the second by accident), both times on the gastodons in area 5. There are two more groups of gastodons in area 11 for another couple of chances.

I'm still looking for that Ghost Butterfly or whatever. Pretty much all I have left, never seems to want to spawn.

I think they are sunny weather only

I found one in Pukei nest, and 2 at separate times in sector 11 after you dive underwater and come out at the river.

Yeah the phantom flutterly was my last non great fish endemic. Of course, after I finally got one I got a second one next time I checked the spot. Desire sensor be like that sometimes.

I see the usual confusion in the comments regarding this. Bristly Crake is a seperate thing from the Downy Crake you need for the delivery request. The Bristly Crake appears on the backs of moss swine. You can find one on the moss swine in Rotten Vale. There are two moss swine here. One in the grotto you find the grimalkyne in and another just left of the first campsite. To get to that one you hug the left wall and duck under an opening. Always equip a Ghillie Mantle before approaching these locations as either variety of Crake is extremely skittish and will flee if you approach without the mantle. The Bristly Crake is much larger than the Downy Crake and brown in color. It will be hard to miss. It is also worth noting that Crakes can spawn in when you aren't looking in their direction (if they are flagged to spawn when you enter the map), so be sure to turn around and face away from the moss swine if they aren't on its back when you first spot it. You may get lucky.

Ive found them at night, during the day, and while raining during the day. The flavor text is misleading.

That is what is rumoured but the best way to go at it is to alternate between WW 1 and AF 1.

It has never been proven that if you dont look at them they wont spawn.

I've found 4 Bristly Crakes, but only caught one because the other three times I noticed it too late without a ghillie suit, or I was crawling in that damn tunnel in Rotten Vale when the mosswine with the crake just decides to walk by.

Seen it in the Rotten Vale camp 1 and hidden cave spawns, and on the gastodons in one of the Elder's Recess lava caves.

I got 2 of those purely out of dumb luck. It's the other one (dawny crake) I can't ever get to spawn even with the youtube exploit guides. I've always dreaded these quests along with the ancient fish quest. ITS THE LAST INGREDIENT OF THE CANTEEN DAMMIT.

do it in the evening, watched a video on it of a guy doing the same run as I did, he got it in area 15, i got it there too, but it was evening, it never spawned at other times

It spawned for me when I turned my back right in front of that low overhang at the upper Rotten Vale spawn. Make no mistake though, they can only spawn if the swine has been flagged to spawn them in that expedition. If they aren't spawning you need to refresh the expedition.
