Dragon Piercer
I've seen DP hit pretty randomly, sometimes there's 3 hit markers, sometimes there's 1 or 2, sometimes so many hit markers I cant count them all, what's the deal with that? Does it have something to do with remaining stamina or with how I do my combo?

The bow has charge levels. It's best to unleash DP on the highest charge level, for example start with 3x normal shots then use DP. Also, your aim/angle affects the number of hits of your DP, because it travels through the target's body. If you unleash it from the face/tail of a monster, it'll hit every part of it from the front to the end. If you aim from the side of the monster, you'll only get 2-3 hits at max.

AFAIK it's literally only affected by how much of the monster it pierces, ie. if you shoot perfectly from head to tail you'll get a gazillion hits but if, say, the monster turns at a bad time and the arrow only goes through its head sideways you'll get only about 1-3 hits.

It goes through the monster. Try to shoot through from head to tail for example. The arrow will travel a further distance through enemy hitboxes and give you more hits.

Try getting closer too before using DP because it has a max range after which it will stop doing any damage.

Dragon piercer is a PIERCING attack. It hits multiple times while passing through a monster, the longer it travels trhoughg a monster, the more it hits.

So best is to shoot from head to tail or vica versa. Bazelgeuse and the like get rekt by this because they are so big.

Also take in mind the range, the dragon piercer has limited range, although its farther then any normal arrow will go.

Charge levels will increase damage per hit

Stamina has nothing to do with it, the attack doesn't even consume stamina.

Hope this helps!

DP has charge levels. The more of the monster it has to go through, the more hits it will do.
Try to use it from tail to head or head to tail.

The zombie elder dragon is a particular easy target.
