mix it with 3 pieces of Xeno jiva for spare shot, a 25% chance to not use your bullet upon firing it, is a lot of fun with a lot of different set types. then simply grab any other relevant skill and you've got a solid ranged set for awhile, atleast until jho, taroth, and lunastra and the arch tempers come out.
HBG LBG or Bow
I ues HBG and LBG
my prefered skill set are
Artillery lv.3
Free Elem/Ammo up Lv.3
Special Ammo Boost Lv.2
Head - Dober Helm Beta (Free Elem/Ammo Up 1)
Body - Kaiser Mail Beta (Special Ammo Boost 2)
Arm - Dodogama Vambraces Alpha (Bombardier 2)
Coil - Kirin Hoop Beta (for lv.1 decoration 3 slot)
Leg - Kirin Leg Guard Beta (Free Elem/Ammo Up 2)
and Artillery Charm III
you can use decoration slot for "evede window" "attack up" and Bombardier for use Mega Barrelbomb after use sleep ammo
this is my set when i play on PS4
Why Artillery? just curious, the tooltip only says it affects sticky ammo.
Weakness Exploit is so.. so good if you can hit weak points decent enough.
Level 2 Stamina Surge with Level 5 Constitution means I can dance around any monster blasting it to bits.
With a bow of course.
Does bow gun tranq ammo wake up sleeping monsters?
That seems like the mind bending backwards video game logic one would expect from monster hunter, but I'd rather not test it in the field.
Back on topic. How useful/useless are sleep skills for Bow (When fighting stuff that can be captured)? Since Bows don't get Tranq options so you have to walk over and shove a tranq bomb in their face regardles, being able to put a limping monster to sleep sounds (hopefully) more convenient than digging for your flash ammo then sprinting to close the distance before it wears off.
Elemental bow (legiana bow, tobi bow, anja bow, vaal bow, or jyura bow)
Rath soul B (hp boost) (hp boost)
Rath B (hp boost)
Teo B (spreadshot up)
Depends on element
Diablos nero B (mighty bow)
Stun res/ conditioning charm
For the waist I fill the entire elemental attack out. For ice its kushala waist with 2 ice attack gems. For dragon its deathstench with 2 dragon attack gems. For everything else its Damascus with 3 elemental attack gems matching the bows element.
If you have normal up instead of spread up you replace the legs with jyura beta legs.
The general purpose skills for all ranged are Weakness Exploit and Attack Boost. They work for all weapons and very few builds don't have them.
Normal, Pierce, and Spread/Power Shot abilities can benefit any ranged weapon, if you're going to be using that kind of shot for your main damage.
Free Elem/Ammo Up is very useful on any bowgun, while Bow Charge Plus is great for bows.
Non-elemental Boost is basically mandatory for any non-elemental build and gives great damage, Critical Element is much the same for elemental builds, and if you're going to reach 100% affinity Critical Boost is another excellent damage increase.
And your best survival tool is probably Evade Extender (dodge further, a godsend at lvl 3).
So, first priority is Weakness Exploit. That's followed by anything that gives % damage to your build specifically; that means the ammo type boosts, Non-elemental Boost, and Critical Element. Third is Free Elem/Ammo Up or Bow Charge Plus. Then fourth is Attack Boost (only to lvl 4, where it gives 5% affinity, anything further is an optional luxury).
Since several of those are single point skills, it shouldn't be hard to grab them along with everything else once you have decorations. After that, worry about QoL skills like ones that improve your survival, or push your damage even higher (like Critical Boost, more Attack Boost etc.).
I use sticky ammo and HBG can use Wyvernfire not sure that skill an affect with LBG Wyvernblast (cause it's explode too)
when i play on ps4 special ammo reload faster when have this skill or may be just my imagination
or just change a charm to weakness exploit
Helm: Dragonking Eyepatch (Weakness Exploit +2)
Chest: Dober Mail B (Attack Boost +2)
Arms: Kaiser Vambraces (Weakness Exploit +1)
Legs: Nergigante Coil A (Attack Boost +2, Stamina Surge +1) (Liable to switch to the B as I don't need Stamina as LBG.)
Feet: Negigante Greaves A (Maximum Might +1, Agitator +1)
Charm: Blessing Charm 3 (This one is definitely going to be removed, but as I'm a newbie to the series I like having breathing room while I learn the fights. Once I 'git gud', it'll be changed appropriately.)
I can't speak much on decorations since I legitimately have only two that are of any use beyond the odd resistance buff, but so far this set has done me rather well. Particularly at offsetting the inherent low attack power, but genuinely decent sustained damage of the LBG. It needs tweaking, as I said I don't need stamina as LBG so the Legs are subject to change, but I've been pretty happy overall.
Thanks, I just forgot that HBG use wyvern ammo not all guns can use that ammo
