Best food to roast...
Hi

Ive been playing this game for a long time now (45h) and honestly I havent really used the oven roast.

Id like to know what are the best things to roast, either for money and usefulness.
Thanks!

You'll just get nutrients and other stuff you can easily craft if you roast anything else and roasting monster parts just for some well done steak seems like a waste.
Just go for raw meat for the rations.

I think he is talking about Oven Roast that you can use at the Canteen in Astera, or out on the mission. Not the roasting of Raw Meat.

I personally never used it, but I would assume Oven Roast is for when you know you are going to die in a fight and want something cooking in the meantime of fighting the monster. Then when you die, it will be ready to eat afterwards to replenish your skills/stats.

Roasting is pointless, although some people roast blue mushrooms because you get nutrients (which are also kinda useless themselves) out of them on occasion.

You can skip the entire mechanic if you want - major net loss on anything not raw meat or a blue mushroom. It's a throwback from the older games, and has no real place here, sadly.

That's what he was talking about. Oven Roasting gets you four or so rations, with the silver item being something "special" like a well-done steak (monster tails etc) or some nutrients (blue mushrooms) etc.

Shamelessly stolen from Reddit, here is the "silver" reward you get as well as rations for every item you can roast - proof it's entirely not worth it:
  • Blue Mushroom = Nutrients
  • Mandragora = Nutrients
  • Exciteshroom = Nutrients
  • Whetfish Fin = Catalyst
  • Whetfish Fin+ = Catalyst
  • Sushifish Scale = Herbal Medicine
  • Gajau Scale = Catalyst
  • Wingdrake Hide+ = Catalyst
  • Barnos Hide+ = Catalyst
  • Jagras Hide+ = Catalyst
  • Shamos Hide+ = Catalyst
  • Girros Hide+ = Catalyst
  • Pukei-pukei Tail = Well-done Steak
  • Barroth Tail = Well-done Steak
  • Anjanath Tail = Well-done Steak
  • Great Girros Tail = Well-done Steak
  • Odogaron Tail = Well-done Steak
  • Rathalos Tail = Well-done Steak
  • Azure Rathalos Tail = Gunpowder
  • Dodogama Tail = Gunpowder

I'm pretty sure that's what both of them are talking about, though.

I just started roasting raw meat the moment i was low on rations. But usualy, the free rations each quest are enough.

Completely different things.

Nope. Cooking Raw meat over the BBQ SPIT is different from cooking raw meat via OVEN ROASTING.

You don't generate rations from cooking meat on the BBQ Spit, you just create burnt meat, raw meat, rare meat or a well-done steak. You can gain well-done steaks as a bonus reward from oven roasting various other items, as I've listed above.

Regardless, Oven Roasting and using the BBQ Spit is massively pointless anyway - the Supply Chest hands out rations like candy, and eating a meal from the Canteen usually gives you +50 Stamina as well - and you can eat again before your stamina drains away entirely to like 25 anyway, and this pretty much only has a chance of happening during an Expedition, where your stamina doesn't honestly matter anyway.

Yes I was talking about Oven Roast.

Thanks for the responses. Kinda a shame that its not useful tbh.

Not sure what you mean by that, but sure. Exactly!

No one ever mentioned the BBQ Spit, is what I was referring to (except you) everyone else was simply talking about the Oven Roast mechanic.

I know, I wish it was at least possible to very rarely cook gems out of the monster tails or something...or even generate unique and new items instead of the same stuff you can get elsewhere much easier anyway.

Ah well, it's just a throwback anyway. Maybe they'll expand it one day. I would have liked it if you could unlock Canteen ingredients by cooking things, even if they were a limited supply of "Fresh Ingredients" you could stock up instead of being at the mercy of RNG.

A strategy for triggering Felyne Carves or Felyne Insurance would be golden.

Sorry, before you edited your post it were super vague and really hard to read. Mentioning rations, raw meat, well done steak, sounded like you were just talking about the BBQ Pit instead of saying Oven Roast.

Oven Roast are your only good source of Rations, and you need Rations.

Rations are better than Well-Done Steaks because they instantly refill your stamina gauge without the lengthy eating animation. Yes, steaks max out your gauge but you should be eating before hunts anyway and popping a few rations is better than chowing down on a steak for three hours while walking out of camp.

Just use raw meat and keep the flow of rations coming.
