Also it does have moments where it stands still, especially for 'line charges' where it lays down several lines of lightning around the area but usually leaves itself vulnerable. Use sprint-unsheathe attacks more I guess, I use a fast wep so I don't have to deal with slow swings. Also bring gear with anti-paralysis at least, and bring nulberries to dispel the shock-blight debuff that makes you easier to stun.
I also had a lot of problems against kirin with melee.. used dbs.. sns.. and gs. GS crit draw build was the easiest.. hit and run playstyle but it still took time.
But since I used the anja bow for arch tempered kirin with maxed crit and crit element I honestly laugh at every kirin variant. Constant ko's.. 5-8 min fight granted. Just headshot it dead and it will never move depending on your builds. Impact mantle is essential for ko lock.
Its a slight cheese but you can at least evade while hitting him.
I basically used the environment to jump up or slide down and transition in a jump attack whenever he got close to me or started charging up a lightning attack. I used dung bombs to move him towards area's that were easy to fight him (her?) in. For reference, I used a hammer, not exactly the fastest weapon and it was surprisingly easy tbh.
