you probably haven't fought a normal Raathalos in HR yet.

Rath Heart* is just a pink Rathian, not the Rathalos.

You have to have a piece of material dropped by the creature itself before the weapon/armour will reveal itself to you. Consider it the Smithy guy needing to know what he'll be working before being able to devise what equipment he can make from it.

The Azure Rathalos and the regular Rathalos both share some common drops I believe, like Rathalos Plates, Gems and Marrow/Medullas, but the main components are different - scales, fangs, carapaces etc. You need some of those.

tl:dr you haven't killed a High Rank regular Rathalos yet

Not sure why you corrected him. Rath Soul is the name of the Azure Rathalos armour set, and Rath Heart is the name of the Pink Rathian set. He never mentioned anything about a Rathian at all.

If the monster dies in your instance/expedition, you will still get materials even if you don't loot it, and the armor set will appear in your list.

"You just need the materials!" can be a bit odd sometimes.

For example my first time against LR Kirin I broke of a hunk of horn but wiped out (ooops they can fire their lightning bolt blind with no LoS down a cliff). Came out with just the piece of horn.

"Well at least I can preview the sets since I took a chunk of them with me"

It didn't unlock anything for myself in the smithy from coming home in embarasment "Oh I guess they have to die?".

But my PALICO unlocked the Kirin set on display because of the horn part "So much for rhyme or reason"

I think you have to be able to craft a single piece for it to show up and palico armor only requires 1 mat?
