don't worry,it's normal..
Yep, those are the ones you want 30 light resist for. You can probably also pop a Elemental Resist Meal then a Max Potion or something for extra bonus points.
But seriously if you don't run maximum resist and health you can pretty much expect to die whenever you get hit with those two attacks.
If you do go that route, look into focus to speed up the charge time shells, and speed sharpening if you have room, or are using a wide gunlance to help maintain sharpness (or whetfish+ if you farmed a ton of their scales or something).
the biggest thing to remember with this is to make sure you don't start a charged shell while there's an attack incoming, and you'll finish the hunt easily. I also take ghillie mantle to start the fight with a free wyvern's fire (if kirin doesn't agro when it sees you, save it for when it changes areas), then immediately swap to vitality mantle for some extra breathing room. It might not set a new speed run time, but it will serve you reliably as long as you don't get overly aggressive.
I recommened either Vaal Hazak's gunlance (level 3 long shells, average elder seal) or Xeno's (Level 3 long, low elderseal). For me, it came down to xeno's being easier to make, but both are great. However, If you plan to never charge a shot (which is safer but a bit slower), look at either bazel or jyuratodus (both wide 3).
I don't recommend any normal style lances as their shells are weak, and unless you know the fight well, you leave yourself VERY exposed while doing the full burst combo. Lance can work well too, the only down side is that it must hit the horn during the amped state, or it'll bounce, unlike GL shells which deal fixed damage regardless of where they hit (and only deal less damage in yellow sharpness)
Kirin doesn't have a lot of health so take your time and don't overcommit. Hit a couple times when you get a chance then get out. When I killed it with switchaxe, I would generally use 2 light attacks after every opening then gtfo. Patience is key.
Heres what your problem is, like many others.
Your not stacking Thunder Resistance.
Yea, many people cart, even Ranged users with their increased passive resistance, get carted hard.
20 isnt enough
30 isnt enough,
40+ is enough, 55 if you can manage it to really lower how much it does.
So get a set of Ingot gear, put on a thunder Deco, get some Blight resist and Stun resist, and their ya go, youll stop getting your ass handed to you.
Thats the problem with alot of new MH Players, they dont realize you gotta sometimes gear for the fight. Wait till Arch Tempered Kirin, your gonna have FUN then.
Gotten myself 53 THunder Resist, Blight, and Stun resist, Ingot gives Defense boost and Health boost. Had No issues.
Whe in doubt, light bowgun
If y want melee then get 4 set rathalos or minds eye.
Case solved
1. Don't dodge by predicting an attack is coming, worst scnario by not dodging after your attacks is eating a physical attack, but if you simply dodge after your attacks by practice... usually you'll end up dodging into a lightning strike soon or later.
2. Aim for the head with a combo which gives the quickest time to be able to dodge after missed lightning strikes.
3. When truly hopeless and need to escape, hiding is a better option. You can find a spot or create your own spot to hide, shoot a slinger shots elsewhere, then start drinking your potion.
Kirin is always faster than you if you keep running away to escape, and you have no time to safely drink a potion with running away.
Solo him, focus on dodging, and be PATIENT. Going greedy for lots of hits will kill you.
