There has to be a "best" weapon for solo play

Ive looked this up so much, and I still see the same responses on youtube, there is "no" best weapon for solo play it has to do with the player skill, no weapon is better than the others....BS, the clear leaderboards say otherwise, I see people ranking on Dual blades, Bow, CB, HBgun...obviously there is some kinda meta here, I feel like at least until the online is fixed this will be a solo play for me, but my problem is that I have no idea what weapon to main, Ive been bouncing between Bow, LS, CB, Switch axe and SnS for awhile now, I just can't decide, and each time I change it up I feel like my skillset gets a handicap cause some weapons play drastically different from one another. Personally I really want to like the bow and SnS but I feel like their damage output wouldn't be enough for solo play, currently Im HR12, Im actually just at the part where I have to fight a pink Rathian...and obviously getting my ass handed to me....so Not really sure what to do, I feel like the more I try to train with weapons the worse I end up getting, So any thoughts would be helpful, I am trying to get better at the game, but I need to know what to invest in early on, again my preferences in order are:

-Bow
-Sword and Shield
-Long Sword
-Switch Axe
-Charge Blade

Not really. Actually the skill ceiling for LS is up there because of mastering the counter is quite difficult as you have to predict the monster's next move. I can name a lot of weapons that require less skill than LS: bow, SnS, HBG, LBG, Glaive... I actually find GS as easy as the LS and have been soloing with it a lot!! I like how you can cause massive damage easily by just timing your attack right, but unlike the LS, you can guard with the GS, maiking it easier to get up close, whereas with the LS, sure you have a little bit of a longer reach, but the only defense you have besides dashing is the counter attack. Besides with LS you really have to make sure that you always have your Spirit gauge high, which is an extra stress that the GS doesnt have. I think the switchaxe is definitely something that has a very high skill ceiling.

bow, longsword, chargeblade, greatsword and heavy bowgun are very popular choices. chargeblade and greatsword are rather annoying to use in multiplayer or if you hunt with palico. going into a hunt without your palico will make the hunt easier, because it makes the monster more predictable since it won't aggro targets randomly.

Since we're already necro AF, I'll just throw in my 5 cents. Playing a weapon that's considered "best" for solo play is a good way to get bored of the game. Try every weapon, see which ones you like, and go with them. You'll be using those for a very long time, you don't want to play a weapon that's considered "best" because it kills the fastest or is the safest, just so you can get bored of the game hours later since you don't like that weapon.

This is an ancient mistake that I see people make with every game. "what's the best class", "what's the best hero", "what's the best weapon". This is a single player game, chill fam. Do whatever you want.

But as for what kills most things the quickest if you do everything perfectly it's gonna be Bow or Charge Blade

Different weapons are better vs different monsters.
You will for instance find the lance a much better solo choicer when Playng vs Dablos and B.Diablos. I cant even imagine soloing Kirin or Kushala using anything but a bowgun especialy light one.
Etc.
You can beat evry monster using any weapons but some are just better at it than others.

SnS and Greatsword.
SnS can do everything. Greatsword has the word "great" in it, and hits harder than CB.

Your skill is the best weapon in this game.

Although, I purposefully ban myself from using any lance or gunlance(shell combo of doom, no boss can withstand its might) because otherwise I'd faceroll all the monsters.

come back to this post from a different perspective once you realize what that is like.

To answer your question, the easiest weapon is:

1. Bow-Lance-Gunlance
2. Longsword
3. Bug Staff

All are skill based but the Bow does not need ammo.
Lance is less technical than Gunlance.
Gunlance has the highest skill progression than both, but in my opinion, the highest damage output.

Longsword can chain combos with max soul, you will kill everything.

Bug Staff can actually almost fly in this game. You can fly. YOU CAN FLY!

But to really answer your question the ultimate weapon is dual wield, you'll understand this one day... but not today.

Once you understand that, you will then understand that it is a lie, and the only truly ultimate weapon is Switch-Axe.
