Ancient Fish and Great Gunpowder fish

I saw on youtube that those fish spawn at the lake by the camp in Elder's Recess, area 8 (and the ancient fish also in Rottem Vale), but I can't find any of them. I get to the places, but I only fing common gunpowder fish and no sign of that ancient fish. I have searched the spots like 50 times already and nothing... Is that normal?

Yes, they are very rare to spawn. Ancient Fish seems more common than Great fish though, i find them a whole lot more often

It's normal but they do exist. I'm not sure if it is time of day specific or what. The easiest to check is the Elders Recess Camp 8 pond...but if you've watched Youtube you already know that.

It's a really rare spawn, because it's achievement related and also considered in game as thought to be extinct. Just luck of the draw if you find it or not. Keep looking and it will show up - I've caught multiple in both locations thus far, so I know it's possible.

I prefer the Rotten Vale spawn because the nearby Mosswine can spawn a Bristly Crake on its back as well, so you can potentially whack out two rare critters in one run if you're absurdly lucky - technically four, because along the way you can also grab a Moonlight Gecko and an Augurfly as well.

I have 14 Petricanths caught and that's maybe half of the ones I've seen.

Great Gunpowderfish is worse.

i have 7 Petricanths, and the only fish i'm missing is the Great Bomb Arowana >.< Great fish are so much harder than Petricanths, oddly

The Ancient Fish spawns by the Eastern Camp in Elder's Recess, and also in the hidden cave at the bottom of the Rotten Vale; go past the three Felynes and check in the radioactive-blue looking river through the back of the cave. It should be way off to the left, should it spawn.

The same cave is one of two places where the Bristly Crake will spawn as well, so you'll be going there a lot anyways.

Great Gunpowderfish is probably the rarest fish in the game IMO. Great versions spawn inconsistently in the Elder's Recess pond, in the pool by Tzi-tzi's nest in the Coral Highlands, and in the waterfall cranny past the Great Girros's nest in the Vale (head downhill and take a right). Good luck finding it.
