loss of character control
I've put a good number of hours into this game, my first monster hunter, and I've got to say it was pretty fun. (I did finally beat it, on rank 35ish right now)

Had some issues with hit boxes (looking at you zeno who lasers me through objects)

but one thing I really can't stand is that this game seems to love to make you sit there and watch your guy stumble around like a blind guy without a cane in rush hour.

Monster bumps me, I lose control of my guy.
Monster hits the ground, I stumble and lose control of my guy.
Monster roars, I lose control of my guy.
My own team hits me, I lose control of my guy.
I reload my weapon, I lose control and can't dodge roll.
I swing with a large weapon, I lose control and can't dodge roll.
I get hit more than twice and I'm stunned and lose control.

Why are there so many mechanics that take control away from me?
I thought me controlling the guy was the whole point of the game.
Is it really fun to watch the monster wind up to hit you when you can't do anything about it?

Save the git gud crap I've beaten all three dark souls I know the game is supposed to be hard but there is a difference between hard and kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥tty and when the monster roars and the hits me before I can roll away I kinda feel like that hit was just a freebie for him since I couldn't really do anything to avoid it.

The stun mechanic is the worst in my opinion. I got hit, I get punished by losing hp, do we really need a mechanic where I have to stand there for two seconds waiting to see if the monster finishes me off or if my cat is smart enough to actually help me? I don't see how it's any better than RNG if I survive that or not it just depends on the monster's AI.

Anyone else think it's a little much or is it just me? Like I said I've beaten all the souls games and I don't recall anything that took control away from me as often as it happens in monster hunter.

well I can't be too bad I've soloed the entire game, killed the final boss and all the elder dragons save nerg in one try each and now I'm onto the tempered guys without much trouble. Like I said it's not that I'm not enjoying the game I just have a gripe with how much it likes me to not play it.

Well, I can see the potential for frustration.

I do believe there are skills to mitigate some of those effects you could look into.

Unfortunately the loss of control mechanics exist either to screw you over and get you killed, have you adjust to and play around, or gear up and negate them completely.

There exist armor skills and decorations that completely negate most of these mechanics.
Earplugs gets rid of roar CC. Stun resist gets rid of stun. Tremors gets rid of blind man stumbling when a monster lands. (I think?) Flinch Free gets rid of friendly fire.

Of course you can't have ALL of these wonderful skills at the same time, so take the ones that you need most.

If you're skilled with dodging, take the evasion skill that gives you more i-frames. You can roll through and negate just about any CC effect if you time it right.

yeah but 5/5 earplugs, tremor resist, flich free, stun resist, that's a lot of skill slots to not be sitting there staring at myself and through most of the game you might have one of those skills maxed out but not more than one at best till you reach the end game. By then it doesn't make much difference anymore.

I felt similar pain when I started on PS4 and finally switched to LBG because of the mobility. I also add Reload Speed+ to the gun so almost all the ammo has Normal or lower reload time, meaning you can reload on the run and it doesn't lock you in place.

It's my first MH game and I'm probably terrible at predicting moves, or at least was at the time. LBG gives you back the ability to react.

Now having played on PS4 and moving back up through a new PC save it's interesting to see how big a difference knowing the monster movesets at the start makes. Between the LBG's mobility and knowing most of the monsters fairly well, it's almost like dancing.

It's not impossible to play around, it's actually fairly easy once you know the monsters moves but it does lend itself to some bs moments where you make one mistake and get stun locked to death for it.
As frustrating as that is to me and I fell and continue to fall victim to this mechanic, I don't see a problem with it. I mean really...what if I hit you with a hammer, would you stumble to the ground or stagger or something or would you be perfectly fine and not phased at all by the impact? I mean really...

A dragon slamming into the ground would make you stumble. That thing isn't a graceful doe. It's a mother fing dragon.

The monster roaring thing is...your guy gets a little intimidated by it.

You get bumped by a T Rex looking guy, what do you think is going to happen? You stand there and not get staggered? Be real here...would you?

You swing a heavy hammer around, you should be quick and nimble after doing so?

I don't like the weapon thing but I guess it is also reasonable, although I'd prefer to be able to super man dive while sheathing instead of waiting to sheath. That's what kills me the most. lol

I can't do DS games, I tried one of them and sucked badly at it but I can handle this game.

I can't stand all of the stuns. I've been stuck for over a minute watching two monsters just roar at each other over and over and over and over and over and over. When do I actually get to play this game?

If the monster wants to roar at the start to make it all cinematic, or even once or twice during a fight, that's fine, but when it's just roar > cheap shot > roar > cheap shot > roar > cart, that's a load of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that should never exist in any game ever.
And I'm not saying it is perfect, it could be tweaked a bit though. Just stated why some of things are a thing.

yeah and I get that realistically it makes sense but it's also a game and no one enjoys a mechanic that leads to you getting hit and knowing that if only you could have control of your guy you could have completely avoided it.
