Q: Improving research level for a specific monster.
Hello,
I've been playing for 10+ hours now but gaining knowledge about a monster is still a bit unclear to me:

I love expeditions, I'm already in 2nd zone but I first I'd like to max out my monster research levels of Great Jagras, Kulu-Ya-Ku and Pukei-Pukei.

Now my question is, when entering a new expedition instance I first get knowledge bonus for each footprint I investigate, which often ends in a 'level up'. But, my research level of the monsters (at the Town researcher on 1st floor) is still lvl 2 or 3. So that's a different type of leveling?

Will I get more monster research experience if I investigate every footprint I can find? Or does it only make it easier to find the monster in that particular instance (and have to do it over again in a new instance)?

I noticed killing the monster does add research bonus, but I'm still curious about those footprints.

Gathering footprints and the such will increase research, also catching the monster will greatly increase the research.

Tracks left by the monster add like 10 research, killing the monster adds like 60, capturing adds like 90. Not sure if anyones done a spreadsheet for research yet, but basically running around with Scenthound charm, or pants, and the Hunters helmet with Scholar makes gaining the research levels super fast. Not sure if there is anyway to tell when you have finished a research level other than it telling you at the end of the mission. Checking your hunters notes mid-mission just shows the progress bar frozen for me.

Scoutfly level will drop back down to 2 over time if you're not constantly pushing it up via hunts and tracking. Don't worry about it.

Put on your clock and stalk the monster. Collect anything it drops.

Collecting foot prints +10

Collecting their speical drops +20 (feathers, boogers, scatches etc)

Trap a monster +20 (bring 4 traps if you want to research faster, 80 pts just for traps in one run)

Breaking their parts +30 (usually you can break 2-3)

Discover their speical activity +60 (like diablos VS black diablos)

Killing monsters +50 (Not 60 like some people said)

Capture monsters + 90

These reseach points will be halved if you do them in LR mission. (if you reached yellow stars)

Scoutflies have 3 levels, the progress bar will slowly degenerate based on how long you go without fighting the monster that pertains to the scoutfly bar. The bar will degenerate to the tab on the bottom of the bar that is red. If you have a notch that isn't red, the bar wont degenerate beyond that notch. Think the notches will be Plus signs when they are saved, but Red triangles when the bar can degenerate beyond them.

Scoutfly level 2 is probably the only one worth farming for. With Scoutfly 2 you only need to pick up 1 track for the monster to show up on the map. Scoutfly 3 is the best with showing the monsters location on the main map at all times even when joining the mission, but harder to farm for. So Scoutfly 2 is recommended.

question is still does it stay at scoutlevel 2 ? once reacher ?

If the bar has a level that is a Plus sign, then the level won't regress past it. If the bar has a level that is a Red triangle, then the progress will regress past it. This is an example from one of my monsters: https://imgur.com/a/g368E8Y

So my level 1 has a plus sign, it will never drop below level 1, but because my level 2 is a red triangle, it will drop past level 2 and start making it's way back to level 1 unless I find more track to lock level 2.

ahh now thats how it works ... interesting :D ... only question left is how fast does it degenerate

I think the little red portion at the end of the progress bar is how much you lose per quest that you don't investigate the monster. That's why I just suggest unlocking scoutlfy level 2 for as many monsters as you can so you don't have to worry about it when it starts regressing.
