they did have to build the game from the ground up, so it makes since theirs so few monsters
well you fight big monsters, and the monsters can beat you up, and kill you easily. you don't level up your character. I find a lot of variation in the monsters, and how they act. they're mostly reptilian monsters though.
you can only increase the quality of your weapons and armor. at the end of the day you can prepare for a hunt all you want, and have the best armor, and there's still a good chance everything can go wrong and you get carted fast.
monsters can come gank you, or start a huge brawl and kill you in the process by accessory. or the hostile wildlife can paralyze you while you're trying to heal, and the monster can just walk over and end you.
the fights are challenging, and there's enough chaotic elements to keep it fresh.
but i mean, if you are the type of person to ask for a nerf when a game has been out for less than 2 weeks, this is not the game for you =)
creativity is rewarded in this game, and stupidity is punished. heavily. =)
Anjanath is classified as a Turkey Rex
The hardest monster.
They didn't have time to implement skeletons too different from the Wyvern/Lizard/Dragon/Dinosaur ones.
there are no "dinosaurs"
there are only 10 "dragons" so far
others are wyverns
