How to avoid stunlock?
I'm not new to the MH series, but this is the first one I'm really noticing that multiple monsters are staggering the character, then continuing to wail, making me faint while I physically can't move.

The First poison spitter, and now the Barroth are the two worst so far, having fainted multiple times because I couldn't avoid an attack.

(Just as a note, I am aware of dodging, and the superman dive. In this case, I dived to avoid an attack, got hit anyways, was stunned, and he did his head slam, which killed me)

Just wondering if there's a mechanic I'm missing to avoid "stun locks". Like higher armor rating. Or is it just a "Welp, hope you dodge right, because if you don't, your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ against certain creatures unless you have enough health to tank it."

The best antidote to getting stunned is not getting hit a second time; it takes two hits to stun you, within close succession of each other. So if you get knocked to the ground, after you get up, don't run right back in; give it like ten seconds, for the prestun to wear off, and then if you get hit again you will not be stunned.

The second best antidote to getting stunned is not getting hit the FIRST time. Learn their mechanics and which moves can knock you down, and then make REALLY sure to avoid those moves.

The third best antidote to getting stunned is to remember you can mash left-right-left-right while stunned to clear it faster. You can sometimes dodge stuff that way.

And if all else fails, run away and use a potion :)

you can get stun resist armor/jewels, but for the most part, just accept that it's gonna happen from time to time

it's why my auto shoutout for fainting is "hecking stunlocked again"

Just don't get hit 4Head
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Stun resistance pretty important since a lot of monsters can easily stun lock u. E.g. Teostra touching u a few times can easily stun u and he will follow up with a carting move. Good thing is the skill is easily obtained.

getting smacked by a monster does a ton of damage, and stacks a hidden amount of stun on you.

because the monster is swole, and you are smol. that's how it is man.

dodging is a serious thing. you have to dodge.
Aether Aug 16, 2018 @ 11:38pm
I'd point out that there are multiple times where dodging is NOT an option. I'll be hit once, and be unable to move before the monster hits me a second time, then a third, and forth. Spitter for example got like a 6 hit combo on me that killed me, because My character would not react or respond

So its what I thought. Either get resistance for it, or pray you have the health to tank it. Seems a bit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but whatever. All MH games had those couple of creatures that were absolutely unfair to try to fight solo

like i said, just accept that it's gonna happen from time to time

best advice would of course be to not get hit the first time, but it takes a LOT of time to get to that point against any monster

you can be the best player in the world, wearing the best stun-resistent armor in the game, and still get stunlock/combo killed because the monster decided to hard target you

You left out the part where they hit you, before the hit that stunned you. One hit cannot stun you, it has to be at least two hits within 10-15 seconds. So your error - the thing that you could have done differently to avoid the situation - was a) getting hit that first time, b) not waiting before reengaging, and c) getting hit that second time.

It might be true that AFTER you were stunned, you had no further recourse (although your Palico could save you by knocking you out of the stun or taking aggro, or if you are in a group, your team could save you with flashpods or something), but it isn't true that you could not have stopped it from happening at all.

Yeah I did. Because shockingly, you know with all of 4ish hours in the game, I can't PERFECT clear a monster.

And once again, I don't think your getting it. I was hit once, got knocked to the ground. The creature then hit me a SECOND TIME, before I could even get up. Then proceded to continue to hit me. There was NO TIME between that first hit, and the following where I could react or move. I COULD NOT DODGE THE SECOND HIT. I WAS NOT EVEN OFF THE BLOODY GROUND BEFORE BEING HIT A SECOND, THIRD. FOURTH time.

Dunno why you're raging, you asked for advice.

"Do better" is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ advice, so I tried to give specific examples of how to do better.

Learn the attacks that knock you out and don't get hit by them.

The point I'm trying to make is that you cannot get hit lying flat on the ground, and a single hit will not send you directly into "standing there with stars around your head" stunned. So you must have been hit at least once before the hit you are calling the "first hit".

It's not being said with judgement or acrimony. I'm trying to help you identify the mechanics that killed you so that you can do better the next time.

Stun resistance is a thing that will save you, but it requires that you use items slots to prepare for failure. That's -fine- and -doable- but it isn't -optimal-. If you can learn to predict and anticipate the monsters enough not to need it, then you can use those slots for other things.

There is no such things as optimal but depends on playstyle. If OP gets stun easily, then use stun resistance. Certain monster like Teostra that likes to jump around easily and super fast can easily touch u a few times in less than 10 second. Arch temp Teostra anyone?

do i really have to say "accept that it's going to happen from time to time" a third time?

too late, i just did

The problem I have, and I think the OP also has, is that sometimes it is just a stagger where you aren't stunned, but you are just trying to get up only to get killed before you can even stand to roll.

Yes, the first trick is to not get hit, but as a melee, some weapons require you to take more chances in order to ever deal any meaningful damage, meanwhile those attacks put you in animations which can't be interrupted. So if your timing is off, you 're just dead in some cases.

exactly

it's just one mistake leading to bad luck

i really don't know why OP is getting so bent out of shape about it

Hey, I'm Dual Blades. I get killed all the time when I get greedy and want one more flurry.

I get pissed off... at myself, for being greedy when I knew it could easily result in my death.

Slowly, as time goes on, I am getting less and less greedy.
