Confused about lynian researcher

I am currently trying to complete every optional quest i can. The wiki page for lynian researcher is about as brief and uninformative as it gets.

I notice while choosing map on expedition i see "Lynian researcher" with a yellow exclamation point when i select coral highlands. Then when i enter (camp 1) he is standing right there with a yellow exclamation mark above his head.

I speak with him expecting to be given some sort of quest, but nothing happens. Do i have to do something for this specific area (coral highlands) to complete whatever it is i am trying to complete?

I've ran around the entire map and even ran to the palico tribe and they are now following me. Not sure what i am supposed to do here any help would be appreciated.

There was one time i followed a cat in ancient forest and i got an item for joining some tribe. I am wondering if i need to do this for every zone

He just talks to you. If you finished White Winds of the New World, every NPC will have an explanation mark (as you've probably seen) and want to say gratz boi. Lynian researcher is no exception. It should stop appearing after you talk with him once.

On the other hand, if this happens repteadly, or you've yet to complete aforementioned quest, then I'm as stumped as you are.

If you already befriend with all 5 palico tribes then he has nothing left to give you beside saying gratz when you completed 2 quests: "White Wind in the new World" and "The Sapphire Star"

I just clicked "first wyverian ritual" at the melder because i had a streamstone shard. I selected 3 trash gems which turned into 1 gem.

Did i waste it considering i only made one instead of 3? I had no clue what i was doing

Rng my friend. Melder is using trash jewel to became a trash jewel but has a minicle chance to get good jewel.
