Heavy Bowguns, I need some advice.

I'm a greatsword main user, have been since I ever first started playing monster hunter back on the PS2, and I'm curious about heavy bowguns because I used to use them slightly. Just honestly need some good advice on what one(s) to build or just a single good one to have and build a set for. <3

So you'd suggest zorah hbg huh? I heard that Kirin leg guards B and Rath soul Mail B would be good with the Xeno'jiiva filling the other two slots.

Black Diablos HBG with the Black Diablos set is great, the best HBG for normal 3 and wyvern shots, doesn't require decos to be functional. Nergs HBG is crazy good for Spread, you're like a tank armed with a shotgun. Legiana's HBG is the best for Pierce.

Xeno's set skill is very good, so many sets center around those 3 pieces.

Joe HBG. By far if you want explosions. Explosives aren't affected by affinity, and for ammo types+pure raw power, nothing currently in the game touches Joe for clust and sticky use.

yep free element/ammo up will give you more cluster bombs to splode monsters with (you can only carry a couple, so you're gonna need to bring mats to craft more mid fight with this playstyle), I prefer the zorah hbg over the deviljho gun because it looks way better and carries paralysis shots which combo well and allow you to line up a nice wyvern snipe all down the monster's body

I really like the Nergi one for Spread and the Diablos for Wyvern fire. If you're going to use Cluster bombs, then the Jho one is the one to use. But I wouldn't use this in multiplayer because it knocks teammates back and is very annoying. It's also a really boring way to play, it's great for quick, solo farming.

What set you use alongside the xeno pieces for spare shot is pretty subjective. I use dober chest beta and nergigante coil beta along with helm/gloves/boots from Xeno since the only skill that affects clust damage is attack.

As for joe vs zorah's guns, I prefer to KO targets with sticky to using para for easy clust openings. It's up to you if you want weaker clust+wyvern snipe or just all around stronger boom

Cool. Check out some Youtube videos on the playstyle too. Gamecologist has a bunch of bowgun videos that are very helpful and you'll want to make use of the quick crafting in the the item wheel.

Zorah if you want a jack of all trades with good support ammo
Jho if you want to trivialize the game with sticky+cluster
Diablos if you want to have fun with wyvernsnipe/wyvern ammo
Nerg if you want to try spread
Legiana if you want to be disappointed with pierce

Unfortunately for you, there isn't a "single best weapon" when it comes to bowguns, as they all have their specializations.
You mostly want 3 pieces of Xeno on any HBG for the set bonus (mandatory if you're building for cluster or wyvern ammo), then free elem/ammo up depending on the build, artillery if you're building for explosive ammo and special ammo boost if you're building for wyvernsnipe.
I recommend shield mod on almost any HBG but it's up to your personal preference.

Alright, I was looking at Jho's stuff vs Zorah and I'm prefering Jho. So you think the Kirin and Rath wouldn't be worth it?

Your call. I haven't had any issues not having capacity up on clust, personally. Plus, I hate farming blue los, so I've never gotten around to making that set.

its not about having issues its about dps without you spend to much time reloading
