After the first heavy attack it would make my character slow to recover and leave me more vulnerable to attacks? How about normal attacks?

With guard 3, I never run out of stamina even vs jho's thrashing.
The main benefits of having higher guard is the reduced stamina cost, reduced chip damage, and faster recovery so you can counter sooner.
I have wanted to see what the difference was between all 5 ranks against the same attack, as well as how every shield reacts. I bet there's a YouTube video of such a thing already.
