You would find world so easy once you have mastered MHGU.
MHGU is at the least has content that will keep you playing for twice as long as the console version of MHW so content wise, go for that.
If you are new to MH id go for MHW. Its really a lot more accessible and it is easier to "get into" the series. MHGU is just a "best of" of MH. It has ZERO story. It is just A LOT of content. And not everything is good. It pays homage to the old MH games, in the way that it has tons of gathering quests. They are really boring (for me) because you do not fight monsters but gather stuff for 5-10 minutes. Or kill low level creatures. MHW barely has any of those. Mh4U got rid of a ton of those as well, and I consider this the overall "better" experience than MHGU.
I skip atleast 50% of the "content" on my switch because I just dont do the gathering quests. I cba, its boring. MHGU also "forces" you to either go multiplayer (which means paying cash now) or do gathering quests as a palicio (and yes you have to play as the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cat; a lot) because the only way to get honey for those very much needed mega potions is through either farming it in gathering quests (and that is not enough, believe me) or getting the honey trade farm. And to unlock named farm you have to do palicio gather quests. I already spent 1-2 hours on em and I still do not have everything I want/need to have consistent Mega Potions at my disposal. And ye that is 1-2 hours of just playing something that is not fun or entertaining. Or you pay 4 bucks a month to get the same thing in multiplayer.
Id really stick to MHW on PS4 (or go PC if you think its so much better). MHGU is not beginner friendly. Its a lot harder than MHW and all the quality of life changes are gone (and those are not minute changes). There is no story, not really a lot of explanation (be prepared to watch youtube videos to learn your weapon, because the tutorials are utter trash) and for a "newcomer" the game can be really off-putting. Its better than previous titles but Monster hunter GU is the embodiment of how not to make your game appealing to new comers (compared to mhw; other games).
You have 93 large monsters to kill in MHGU while world only has 34 large monsters.
Well, to be fair, monster hunter does not need a story. World shows that because they tried to hard to get a story in the game and it lost all the charm of a "monster hunter", its a good game, but its not a good monster hunter game.
yes? Your point is? It has more monsters yes, but he said he is new to the franchise and the game is really off putting. It does not get really good till rank 4 low level quests which is atleast 3 hours of boredoom. I am not trashing the game, its just not fun for a newcomer. It does not have the same appeal as MH4 had where atleast you had some sort of an intro and a story. The game really is barebones in terms of explanation and enticement to keep going. Hell even the demo was not designed for newcomers. It was such a bad demo to introduce people to the game.
The goal is to get a new players into the series. You can recommend MHGU, but its a bad entry for a person who has never really played a monster hunter game before. Maybe it is just me, but if MHGU would have been my first MH I would have sold the game already. Its just that archaic.
"Honestly, if you can stomach the graphics, unfriendly ui, outdated mechanics (drinking potion requires you to be still, you need paintball to track monsters) and the clunkiness then I would suggest MGHU for the HUUUUUGE content it has. World has like maybe 20 - 30% of MGHU content." is my advice for him.
He said this, "I think I can somtach the things you mentioned. And I guess If I become quite decent in MHGU I can do pretty good on World as well :D"
I mentioned the monster disparity because you were underselling MHGU content. You said "50% of content you can skip". Which is a blatant exaggeration in your part by the way. You made it seem like the extra content MGHU has over world are just the boring gathering quests, killing small monsters and other examples you have made. So I pointed out how MGHU has far more interesting content than World, 93 to 34 large monsters.
Yes it has more monsters. Its great for Monster hunter fans (Like myself, it appears I have to point that out). Id still not recommend it to a newcomer. He says he can deal with all the loss of the quality of life changes MHW brought us, but I am not sure that he understands that we talk about HOURS of QOL changes. I mean the quotes you posted do not even cover the disparity of the two titles in the least.
Yes MH does not need a story, but it helps people to get into it. Can you guys approach this from the perspective of a person who has no experience with the franchise at all? I know that 80% here are veterans and fans of the franchise. But if a new guy comes in and plays MHGU for two hours and then checks out (e.g) God of war (ps4) for two hours, what game is he gonna pick you think?
I agree with you on that, newcomers will find it harder to get into MHGU as it is a less accessible game. Look, you are exaggerating again. The important QOL changes MHGU does not have, I can count with my fingers. The drinking potion animation lock, requirement of paintballs, unable to change your gear in camp, unable to restock your inventory in camp are the only things in my mind right now. Can you give some more QOL changes MHGU doesn't have?
My point is you tried to undersell the content MHGU has. I just simply corrected you on that.
Do you even read the stuff you type before you press send? Ofc GOW4 is different from MH but both are 50hour + games and not everyone has 24 hours a day just for video games. I mean how many games can you play? How much time tilll you quit a game that is full of grinding (like MHGU) for a more accessible one (like GOW4 or MHW) because you just do not have so many hours to spend on gaming? I thought my point came through. Then again you scolded me for comparing GOW4 with MH but a sentence prior you compared MH to Dark souls, which is also completely different from MH, so I guess you have no clue either.
Then agian, you can stop commenting when you dont have MHW on PC.
