Just letting you know probably is not the best but it's usable. You can change the weapon for something what have slots but Jho lance is really good. You can also drop something like a point in critical eye or critical boost but i would say to keep handicraft at 5, but it's your choice.
This, i have affinity + regen auguments on it
As for armor teostra helmet beta + hands alpha + waist alpha + brigade beta chest( 2 lvl2 slots) + uragan alpha legs + lvl 3 critical eye necklace
for decorations i use guard up + elementless + crit boost + critical eye + guard
if you want guard 5 you can change necklance to lvl 3 guard and change guard deco to critical eye
Dragonking Eyepatch
Urugaan Chest b
Urugaan Arms b
Urugaan Waist b
Rathalos Legs a
Ironside Charm III
That's the simplest defensive setup to gear for without nerfing damage too much. You'll end up with: Guard Up, Guard +4, Weakness Exploit +3, Parkbreaker +3, and 6 empty slots for gems.
If you have a Weakness Exploit gem you can swap the legs for something else.
If you have Rathalos Chest, you can use Uragaan Helm instead of eyepatch.
If you have a Guard Up gem or if you don't want Guard Up there are much better options.
Edit: I assume this build would work with S&S, Gunlance etc. also.
Lance actually encourages aggressive gameplay by constantly counter thrusting/power guarding every monster's attack move and stay in a good position. This means guarding lance isn't efficient unless there is no window for a counter thrust/power guard. Counter thrusting/power guarding is very easy to learn and super safe to use AND lets you constantly stay relevant with non-stop poking
I also find guard up incredible useful because it lets you powerguard through normally non guardable attacks (supernova)

This is a odo lance master's touch build, not the best damage but best uptime with white sharpness. Alternatively deviljho's lance is a really good one as well but maximum might doesnt work too well with lance so you wont get super high affinity with it. (what a shame).
I have a sit back, relax and never die lance set I use if I come across a monster I can't beat. My set (dare I say the best lance set) makes any monster in this game a trivial task. I can do any TED under 10 minutes while being safe as heck. Tempered Devil Jho I can do under 20 minutes.
Dauntless Lifesteal Tank Lance
Skills you get:
Vaal Hazak Vitality (hp regeneration so no more potions)
Recovery Speed 3 (quadruples your red hp healing, works so well against chip damage)
Health Boost 3 (33% more effective hp)
Divine Blessing 3 (12.5% more effective hp)
Guard 3 (3 is the sweet spot for guard)
Critical Eye 4 (i want to have my Jho lance at 0% affinity)
Handicraft 2 (lances lose sharpness quick)
Peak Performance 2 (stronger than Attack Boost 3, it should be up 90% of the time)
Resuscitate (negative blights actually become a positive for you)
Guard Up (enables you to block unblockable attacks)
Notes:
I like to swap Divine Blessing 3 with Fire Resistance 3 against Teostra, Stun Resistance 3 against Kirin, Effluvial Resistance 3 against Vaal Hazak.
Armor:
Guild Cross Circlet B - Ironwall Jewel x 3
Vaal Mail B - Recovery Jewel x 1 and Protection Jewel x 1
Vaal Braces B - Vitality Jewel x 3
Vaal Coil B - Expert Jewel x 2
Death Stench Heel B - Expert Jewel x 2
Bulwark Charm
Weapon:
Fiendish Tower - Health Augment (for that 10% life steal) and Affinity Augment
*Edit:
It is also Fashion Hunting approved!

You can swap dragon jewel for more guard if you feel the need , but i think guard3 is the sweetspot , also the medicine jewel is a plus , you can fit there anything .
I gotta work on my timing with things but until then I gotta almost always hold down right trigger. So guard 5 isn't worth getting using gear only if we have guard 3?
Correct. Guard 3 is all you will ever need.
