I was in the same boat as I ground out armor and his fangs are a pain to get. Protip for getting fangs though, is use a bow or bowgun and break his head. Its easiest to do that with those weapons. (I actually got his gem more often then his fangs oddly enough from quest completion. O.o;;)
When an investigation is added, it is a random investigation of that threat level. You can get Nergigante investigations from Vaal Hazaak.
Pick up all the tracks. Give him time to just wander around and pick up all the old tracks.
Gun Lance is also a good time for fangs. So far as the fact I have as many fangs as I do tails in my inventory.
RNG is always the real enemy though. Fangs and horns may be the meme loot. But it always feels far more silly to sever the tail from a monster and come out of the quest with zero tail parts.
"I see you cut off and carved their tail literally four times in a row, good job!... What, actual pieces of tail? Where would you get those?"
Come back when you beat him over 10 times and have not gotten any investigation.
Investigations are RANDOM.
Just wait till you get to end game with temper monsters.
50 min following kirin for 1 investigation if you are unlucky and 3 investigation if you are lucky.
Not as funny as when you DON'T sever the tail and come out with 2-3 tail parts.
i prefer doing the rocksteady/HR100 quest if i run out of tempered ED invests (or if the ones i have are crap rewards); it may not be as efficient as track farming; but its a hell of a lot less boring
i deleted countless vaal investigations while farming the radobaan crown
