Dismantle equipment for material?

I thought the tutorial said the smity can dismantle equipment for materials, but I can't figure out how, if its even possible?

Only weapons. In the upgrade section you can rollback upgrades and reclaim the mats (unless it has previously said "once you upgrade this you can't rollback").

you can downgrade weapons unless you reach points of no return (the larger boxes)

just go to the upgrade tree for that weapon and select the previous box to downgrade and get materials back.

you cant break down armor or weapons completely last i checked

Just "Downgrade".
Go to upgrade weapon and just go back one tier. Some weapons cannot be downgraded you can tell by border around icon when looking at the tree.
