Once you have some energy stored (yellow or red outline on your phials), press secondary attack while guarding to charge into phials.

Press guard while starting a SAED (you can start it either pressing primary+secondary after a shield stab or GP, from neutral with your axe out, or by going into the third discharge hit with your axe) to charge your shield.

Press and hold primary attack while charging your shield (once your shield has been amped) to amp your blade. No need to have energy stored, you can do it right after amping your shield.

Charge your shield? no idea, lets run through the controller varients.

B, you press it to gather tracks and materials and it's also your secondary attack, press B while holding block to refill your phials, then press primary attack to start the sword charge.

Charge your shield? primary + secondary attack 3 times and then block when you're about to super elemental discharge.

Do your super attack and then block mid animation.
To charge your sword, with a charged shield, do the phial charge thing and then hold slash.

Charge Phials: R2+O
Charge Shield: Δ+O -> Δ+O -> Δ+O and immediately press R2
Charge Sword: R2+O+Δ Hold Δ till the blade goes in and let loose, don't hold Δ too long.

Hit the monster with the sword to accumulate energy. If you hold RMB and release it whent he explosive animation happens you will do a double slash that does it faster. Blocking enemy attacks also does it.

Once you have the phials bar bright yellow or red hold Ctrl and press RMB to fill your phials. Red charges five phials and yellow three.

Onve you have any amount of phials charged change to axe then press LMB+RMB and you will start the amped attack animation. When the animation starts press Ctrl, that will cancel the amped attack and use the filled phials to charge your shield.

But it´s not over yet. After you charged your shield, again in sword mode hold Ctrl+RMB and wait untill it finishes the charging animation to also charge your sword.

Once your shield is charged you get the benefits of the Guard skill and monsters take damage when you block them and your axe mode will do increased damage and if it has impact phial it´s hits on the head have a chance to stun the monster, if it has elemental phials it will do increased elemental damage. Charging your sword gives it the same benefits of the axe mode when you hit with it.

Charging your sword give you mind's eye allowing your swing to not deflect, but you dont need it for maximum SAED dmg.
