You need to finish the gajalaka lingustics critical bounty quest line i believe

When you reach High rank , you will get the opportunity to befriend with a tribe by doing a specific bounty.

Or , try to put the monster between you and a group of Gajalaka and hope the Gajalaka will target the monster instead of you .

There is a dude called Lynian Researcher or smth in expeditions... so find him and complete his questline... Gajalaka is the final quest of the questline

This was outlined here on steam and reddit just last night.

1. Reach HR.

2. Reqch Elders Recess.

3. Finish the Lynian research chain. ie befriend all the Grimlaykin tribes then the Grajalaka.

4A. In some missions you will see a paw print on the mini map. Often the is a Grimlaykin but some times it's a Grajalaka. Fight the monster under it.

4B. Once you e finished the chain some of the roaming packs wont attack you but will attack monsters you fight near them.

You dont need to befriend them.Just fight near them and make sure you position yourself properly (Gajalakas>Monster<You) and they will start throwing stuff at the monster.
If you do befriend them you can get a cat to come with you.

even then, not every tribe will help you, only some of them, don't get ambushed

I'll give you a summary about 'em:
1) There's a quest to kinda befriend them(mainly to unlock mewlotov gadget);
2) You don't actually need to complete the quest for them to be helpful for your hunt.

Quest is unlocked and given by Lynian Researcher once you unlock Elder's Recess and befriended all other tribes(Bugtrappers, Protectors, Troupers, and Plunderers) from their respective locations. You need to find and talk to him when he has something to say to you.
Quests are simple so i'll skip them.
After you've done you now can recruit Gajalaka as tailraider, BUT not just any of them!
Be mindful that most Gajalaka you encounter will still attack you in close proximity!
You can distinguish friendly Gajalaka by the green dot above their heads(the one that marks friendly NPCs) - these ones you can recruit and they won't attack you.

For them to be useful however - you don't need to be friends with them, you simply don't need to stand between them and the monster, let them attack the monster instead - they can blow it up with mewlotovs, poison it, paralyse it, sleep it. You just do your thing meanwhile.

You also need to rank up your affinity with them by a couple levels. Its an unlock like the Grimalkyne trap is.

Actually, once befriended they can show up in places just like the Grimalkynes, waiting for an opportunity. Grimalkynes will trap a monster, immobilizing it for extra damage if you mount it in their presence. Gajalaka will wait for you to down the monster in any way, then line up and pelt it with explosives, doing extra damage and keeping it pinned for longer. The ones that will do these things show up on your map as white paw icons.

You just have to befriend tailraiders basically, the one i find most people are missing is the vale cave, its also the same place you find the bristly crake and platinum fish.

Once you have done all that you will get the quest line for the gajalanka's.

gajalka are best waifu i husbando

3 ways they can help you 1 is the gajalaka shell shock and the tailraider which both need to be unlock via map quest. And the final is if you fight a monster near a wild gajalaka and position yourself properly they can help you stun or sleep the monster which i normally do for faster kill just be warned its a double edge sword meaning it can be a disaster at wrong position.
