Why no love for the Hunting Horn?
I get it's low tier, but compared to most of the weapons i'm not seeing that. I mean heavy hitters like the great sword or hammer are just powerful, same with HBG with combines, but poison procs, the nerg HH, hitting consisten 120's on heavier hits (non reticle) and 60-70 on pretty much mashing b...and it hits quite fast. Not like a weapon that is great for element but procs status fast making it even better as a support, songs stack to three and it's crazy simple to get them while doing heavy hits into reticle, and the element is about as good as something like the gun lance or lance depending on where you're swinging, and consistent ko power. Not even geared for it and KO Nerg at least three times in a solo five minute investigation. The GS is what I mained the majority of the game, or ranged (Wall jumps are ridiculous and need a nerf, but I LOVE the bow, the uns are fun but i'm really sad no rapid P, I became attached to the shaggy LBG, but love walking shots on the weapons, especially HBG)

Raw is still the winer unless you're really not trying to run damage, but why don't people get into this weapon? I hear GL and HH are lower tier, but i'm seeing pretty fast kill times. Not many users on them, guild cards when I see them since we are both using it, and they have a few hunts...sort of corner flute. I mained HH in MHFU, Tri, 3U, 4U, and ran with it in gen but got hooked to the SNS and the LBG, oils and internal ammo like P element...ahh that would have been cool.

As far as times for speed runs not looking at cheese mechanics like mortar shelling or bow wall jumping, on a normal speed run hunt, what kind of times are we really looking at? Gen did a really good job of balance, overall speed runs were only broken by the lance. Here it seems bow, but everything else seems pretty standard, and if you don't cheese mechanic it seems well balanced. It's only a year old so speed runners start coming out with some pretty crazy times with naked runs and joke weapons, but i'm curious, past HH (and do you see HH online much?) what are the average hunt times with weapons, and are people just lagging behind with some in the "pro" crowd? I see a lot of Japanese videos and HH solo times and team times are great. Even the mount is pretty solid. KO power is strong, speed is steady and you buff/move fast as well. It's even got the roll into a double swing. Man I miss SWAX's roll swing, but at least Axe has the finisher still and combos into sword.

They did a good job with the weapons. GS doesn't even need to sheath anymore. Shoulder ram, the moi it gets is awesome.

Low tier? HH is average in terms of solo killing. And pretty darn good in terms of utility and how much it can provide on multiplayer with buffs. It can speedrun end-tier enemies faster and more reliably than Switchaxe, LBG, Gunlance, Insect Glaive, Sword n Shield and Dual Blades.

Not to mention, you can KO monsters as good as Hammer. Giving more utility and more window for your party to burst down the enemy. People are new to the game, they don't know how things works because most new players are still learning. They'll eventually know how HH can actually destroy the enemy and provide god-tier buffs to the whole team.

That, or Bow mains who uses DPS meter will just feel better about themselves for thinking they've carried the whole team for dealing the most damage thanks to Attk and Stamina Buffs.

As with any game, people who are willing to be support classes are in the vast miniority.

Personally I prefer to use Friendship and Wide Range for group buffing and healing and keep my weapon to something that can do a bit more DPS (i.e. the bow). I like to be a support, but I dislike the HH.

I just started HH after running LS from the start. It's fun and simple. Encore attack is savage!

Yes, if you want to do support then go SnS+WR+Speed Eating.
HH is not support. It can provide buffs... as long as you keep attacking (doing damage or not.) I main LS and now HH. I run with Deep Vero and on my DMG build my attack is over 1000. With this build I am DPS with a bonus of frequently buffing others.

Personally I think the attacks of the HH when we want to do damage just aren't as satisfying as most of the other weapons and the animations are looooooong.

I mean, the most damage we can do on a downed monster is what exactly? Note 3 followed by Upward recital encored to a downward recital? It doesn't exactly feel great waiting all those seconds for the animations to play out, at least not for me.

The actual damage is a little low for horns without Attack Up, but usually I can dish out about as much damage as most other weapons with people of similar skill.

Its moveset is terrible, it has no defensive capabilities on top of rooting you in place for 5 years and the hammer completely overshadows its KO potential.

Getting a 120 hit doesn't equal great damage. In fact that number is entirely meaningless. Else we'd just conclude .. "Well, GS can hit for 900 damage therefor it's the best weapon xDDD"

HH still deals the least amount of pure damage, which naturally is off-set with the fact that it has powerful buffs and heals.

For Solo player it's generally 'meh' cause pretty much every other weapon kills things quicker, some by a lot some by a little. But HH isn't 'average' in terms of damage, it's the bottom tier.

For Multiplayer hunts, it's still kind of meh. The buffs it can provide, while useful aren't really needed, SnS just feels like an overall better support weapon and SnS can easily mount/apply status to Buff, Heal and CC enemies.

The weapon itself is incredibly simple to use, your most damaging abilities are the Ctrl double hit and the Ctrl side swings and I think your highest 'dps' combo is like Left Click + Ctrl -> Roll -> Repeat.

The weapon mechanics themselves are incredibly boring and the novelty of 'dooting' wears off really fast for anyone that isn't a hardcore fan of the idea of a hunting horn.

I wanted to like it, I wanted to make it work.. but it just feels meh to use sadly. The 'Dooting' hype that people try to sell the weapon with sadly wears off really quickly if you see what other weapons can do while being actually enjoyable to play.

And playing a support with SnS feels far more fun, is far more fluid and offers far greater options.

Don't feel like dooting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Something I forgot to say, in MHW we're balanced around our Recitals and Encores. Most of our damage comes from them which sounds ok, until you realize that most monsters won't stay still. In this game you do not want to be locked in an animation for too long and that's exactly what Recitals do. This often leaves you with doing a hit and run style because Vaal is pretending to be Rath again, or Kirin is just Kirin, or Nerg jumps to a player on the other side of the map while you're stuck in place dooting....

Also, status thresholds are much larger in World, meaning that exhaust damage is negligible and K.O.s will happen rarely for most HH users.

I've tried to get into HH but there's not enough movesets to make it interesting or flexable (same 3-5 attack animations) ontop of having to play your performance to be able to encore which is where most of the burst in the weapon comes from and that animation locks you into the doot if you don't dodge out of the encore/performance before it starts. Buffs are a lot more convient this time round, playing multiple songs at once then encore them all but Weapon art is pretty lazy - copy-paste same model when you look at the other 13 weapons, that turns a few people off it too.

If it wasn't for how mediocre the damage was for how much effort is required vs other weapons that have low/medium floor - High ceiling to reward getting good, it'd be more popular. I don't really get the whole point of it not rewarding skill to bring it in line with other weapons, even a great dooter ends up in last place for speed runs in general. If they gave you more ways to cast a certain note, to add some complexity to it and situiation flexability or more stuff like the RMB + (LMB + RMB/ LMB/ RMB) for a quick double note cast, the weapon would easily be up there. But as it is, it's just frustrating and not worth the poor return on skill unless you have somebody taking one for the team against Daora's wind, etc.

That said, not trying to offend the people supporting the underdog weapon as their favourite. It can just be improved in other areas besides just a lazy buff to it's damage or swing speed.

because its kinda replaceable for wide range and friendship.

also many HH users just want to be on the side playing songs, in that case I've spotify
Stefe Oct 4, 2018 @ 12:59am
I use it because it's just fun to use, speedrunning be damned.
