Not to mention, you can KO monsters as good as Hammer. Giving more utility and more window for your party to burst down the enemy. People are new to the game, they don't know how things works because most new players are still learning. They'll eventually know how HH can actually destroy the enemy and provide god-tier buffs to the whole team.
That, or Bow mains who uses DPS meter will just feel better about themselves for thinking they've carried the whole team for dealing the most damage thanks to Attk and Stamina Buffs.
Personally I prefer to use Friendship and Wide Range for group buffing and healing and keep my weapon to something that can do a bit more DPS (i.e. the bow). I like to be a support, but I dislike the HH.
*joins the angry dooting*
Yes, if you want to do support then go SnS+WR+Speed Eating.
HH is not support. It can provide buffs... as long as you keep attacking (doing damage or not.) I main LS and now HH. I run with Deep Vero and on my DMG build my attack is over 1000. With this build I am DPS with a bonus of frequently buffing others.
I mean, the most damage we can do on a downed monster is what exactly? Note 3 followed by Upward recital encored to a downward recital? It doesn't exactly feel great waiting all those seconds for the animations to play out, at least not for me.
The actual damage is a little low for horns without Attack Up, but usually I can dish out about as much damage as most other weapons with people of similar skill.
Getting a 120 hit doesn't equal great damage. In fact that number is entirely meaningless. Else we'd just conclude .. "Well, GS can hit for 900 damage therefor it's the best weapon xDDD"
HH still deals the least amount of pure damage, which naturally is off-set with the fact that it has powerful buffs and heals.
For Solo player it's generally 'meh' cause pretty much every other weapon kills things quicker, some by a lot some by a little. But HH isn't 'average' in terms of damage, it's the bottom tier.
For Multiplayer hunts, it's still kind of meh. The buffs it can provide, while useful aren't really needed, SnS just feels like an overall better support weapon and SnS can easily mount/apply status to Buff, Heal and CC enemies.
The weapon itself is incredibly simple to use, your most damaging abilities are the Ctrl double hit and the Ctrl side swings and I think your highest 'dps' combo is like Left Click + Ctrl -> Roll -> Repeat.
The weapon mechanics themselves are incredibly boring and the novelty of 'dooting' wears off really fast for anyone that isn't a hardcore fan of the idea of a hunting horn.
I wanted to like it, I wanted to make it work.. but it just feels meh to use sadly. The 'Dooting' hype that people try to sell the weapon with sadly wears off really quickly if you see what other weapons can do while being actually enjoyable to play.
And playing a support with SnS feels far more fun, is far more fluid and offers far greater options.
Also, status thresholds are much larger in World, meaning that exhaust damage is negligible and K.O.s will happen rarely for most HH users.
If it wasn't for how mediocre the damage was for how much effort is required vs other weapons that have low/medium floor - High ceiling to reward getting good, it'd be more popular. I don't really get the whole point of it not rewarding skill to bring it in line with other weapons, even a great dooter ends up in last place for speed runs in general. If they gave you more ways to cast a certain note, to add some complexity to it and situiation flexability or more stuff like the RMB + (LMB + RMB/ LMB/ RMB) for a quick double note cast, the weapon would easily be up there. But as it is, it's just frustrating and not worth the poor return on skill unless you have somebody taking one for the team against Daora's wind, etc.
That said, not trying to offend the people supporting the underdog weapon as their favourite. It can just be improved in other areas besides just a lazy buff to it's damage or swing speed.
also many HH users just want to be on the side playing songs, in that case I've spotify
