greatsword build hr14
Hello

I am new to the series this being my first mh game and all.

I am currently hr14 greatsword about to face teostra. Have made a build that’s been serving me well up until now but would like to know how viable it would be for the post xeno game.

Any suggestions on what to improve or change are much appreciated.

Thank you hunters and happy hunting.

Rank: HR14
Build

Weapon: giant jawblade II - attack up gem. The first one you get and the only one I got so far ;(
Head: Dragonking’s eyepatch
Chest: Dober mail beta
Hands: Nergigante vambraces alpha
Waist: Nergigante coil beta
Legs: Nergigante greaves alpha

Using elementless jewel and swaping between attack III and master III charms

I'd maybe consider adding focus skill to the mix.
Extra few points of damage or the ability to lay down your truestrike on enemies faster which consequently means more chance the monster gets knocked down and more damage anyways.

That build is perfectly fine. Focus would be nice, but you can shoulder tackle through the charges and get to the True Charge pretty fast without it. Until Kulv rolls around hopefully with the event, there's really not much you can add except farming for the attack jewels.

Swap out the chest for Damascus B if you aren't playing fashion hunter, Diablos Nero B gloves if you are.

Heard the attack jewels are a myth...

But seriosly are they really that hard to get ? I only got 1 so far and that was pretty early in the game. Do they drop a bit more frequently post story ?

In addition to focus u need an elderseal high or medium weapon to deal with elder dragons.

As for focus skill u go to the crafter, press C and pick by skill to see all focus pieces of armor.

Also the best defensive skill is health boost. Insert 3 decos of health boost and ur survivability will skyrocket.

Yes, yes they are. I have a combined hourly play rate around 1500 hours between PC and PS4, I have a grand total of 3 attack jewels between the games. 2 of them are the free ones.

As far as elderseal, don't even bother with it with GS, throw it on your palico. The ONLY elder dragon that will give you a problem is Daora if he can even get off the ground, flashpods keep him on his side for 95% of the fight, your shoulder tackle will do the other 5%

I have the hazak ♥♥♥ greatsword as well (want that leviathan’s fury cause it just looks soo sexy) but been mostly using the giant jawblade II due to the elementless jewel attack boost.

Would hazak ♥♥♥ be better against elders ?

No, it wouldn't. The best GS's are all elemental-less. You should be focusing on getting as many True Charges in as possible and hit-run draw attack tactics until you get comfortable shoulder tackling through attacks.

Certainly better, elderseal medium. The best is the Jho GS, elderseal high.

Thanks for the advice man I really appreciate it. Shoulder tackling still causes me trouble, managed to successfuly time it right only a few times the rest were all unintentional/lucky. Guess I just need to practice it more

The best GS is Wyvern Ignition... except against elders. An elder's ulti will kill a HR 14 hunter directly except if it has been eldersealed. An eldersealed dragon becomes a sitting duck.

Overall for GS things to shoot for are attack +4, and elemental-less jewel. Those should be your top priority. Then get the augement for recovery and crit or attack depending on how you build (mainly which weapon, but let's be real, you're going to be using the Rocket GS when it becomes available). From there you want to either go Crit Draw + Weakness Exploit if you're uncomfortable with tackles, Weakness Exploit + Crit Boost if you are. Both builds give you 100% crit and True Charges upwards of 800+ damage.

No, even against elder the Rocket GS is still better. The ONLY fight it's kinda up for debate is if you're struggling against Kulv P2 and P3, and even then, you unlock it's element and keep her armor molten more with the fire element.

Edit, every single elder dragon's aura can be negated via other means. Teo/Luna flash pods right before the explosions or superman diving/potion, Val, the gems+pants or just simply ignore it, Daora (Lol why is he even an elder dragon?) Nergi by breaking the spikes in 1 or 2 GS hits.
