How do you fight against flying enemies?
At this point I've just started using the insect glaive so that I can fight them easily, for some reason it feels really good to fight just about anything with it due to the mobility it offers and you can keep up the aggression a lot, the other weapons have been rather nice to use as well, but I really struggle with fighting flying enemies with any melee weapon other than the glaive, any of you got any advice?

Flash pods. When they take flight, you blind them and get a few seconds of free damage after they fall out of the sky. Drop a trap shortly afterward for even more time to wail on them while they're grounded.

Thanks dude, gotta try that out, are there any exceptions to that or do all monsters go down once you flash them?

Some monsters seem to have resistance during certain attacks, so it's best to flash them between attacks. I'm not certain, but I think Azure Rathalos ignores flash while enraged, and tempered monsters in general can be flashed 3 times before becoming immune.

Hopefully by the time you're fighting tempered monsters, your gear and personal skills are high enough to bring them down before they become immune.

Lunastra.

Oh yeah, Lunastra is a big one. Instead of blinding her, it triggers her massive AOE attack, so don't flash her unless being in the middle of rapid random fire and explosions is part of the plan.

I'm sure the most popular answer is flash pods, lots of flash pods (I generally don't use them as A) I am very stingy. B) I want to learn how to handle a monster if i don't have any. C) Someone else probably used their own.).

Most Large swung weapons (LS, CB, SA, GL, HH) can hit flying enemies from the ground.

Gunlances (Long especially) can used charged shells, they frequently cause flinches or part breaks which can knock the monster out of the sky.

Weapons like DB, SnS and Hammer, and Lance to an lesser extent, need some form of terrain to land good hits, but monsters do tend to hover low enough that they can hit their feet or tail.

Flash pod is the easiest solution to flying enemies. It knocks them out of the air, temporarily blinds them (which keeps them on the ground), and some flying monsters like Rathalos and Legiana wouldn't take off to the air right away after being flashed (Legiana isn't that aerial to begin with though). Azure Rathalos is an exception in that it'll enrage right after it snaps out of blindness if it isn't exhausted. Both Lunastra and Arch-Tempered Kushala Daora can't be knocked out of the air using flashes though, even though it'll still stagger them out of the air, but if Lunastra has a level 2 aura, flashing her while she's grounded or airborne will trigger her supernova, which can be useful if you want to remove her aura. Note that if you flash AT Kushala it'll also remove his wind barrier.

Remember that Tempered Monsters can only be flashed 4 times (with exception- Tempered Behemoth can only be flashed twice).

Another solution is to use a slinger ammo like Crystalburst to stagger them mid-air, which will usually break their aura (in case of something like Kushala) and keep them suspended long enough for you to try and reach out to them from the ground. Whenever a monster receives a hit in the air that would normally stagger them when they're grounded, it'll knock them out, but it's only for approximately half duration of what you would get if you KO them in the ground, so it's still better to save head KOs for when they're grounded if you want a longer duration stun.

Putting barrel bombs in front of a charging aerial monster is another good way to knock them down.

step 1: unsheath gunlance
step 2: point at sky and fire wildly into the wyvern's taint until it falls

I second this strategy XD

Like everyone else said, Flash pods are your friend. but your gunner teammate saving their last status ammo needed to paralysis/sleep for when the monster takes flight is your bestest of friends. (I'm looking at you AT Kushala. no mercy for you)

Monsters in the New World definitely don't care about broken wings. Even if they're torn to shreds, they will still take flight.

Probly, but break both ratholos wings, and they will stumble (at least once, i usually kill/cap them b4 they fly away)

Flash pods

sticky ammo to get an ko

break parts on them

try to keep them on ground for longer time by placing traps down.

Use ranged weapons and combine it with impact mantle.

Use Sleep knife or para knife ,if you want ,but dont forget about their weakness ,tresholds and that you may want to save it for other option.

Some monster like at kushala can be shot out of the sky rather easily ,if you hit certain body parts .Same with xeno.

Abuse the enviroment against them by using a ledge or drop something on them or kick a paratoad or a sleeptoad ,however keep in mind that it sometimes is hard to pull off,due the fact ,that aerial monster move a lot in the air still.

be patient and wait ,some of them drop down ,after a certain time :D

Or use a dungpod and they fly somewhere else and drop down there, but thats may be the least option you want to use xD

Flash pod followed by good ol SAED in the face

Two words: Crowd Control
This could be Flash / Paralysis / Sleep / Knock out / traps and Mount.

Flash is the easiest, but you need to be aware of the monster you are fighting. As for Tempered, you can only flash it 2 or 3 times. So save it for game changing moment whenever possible.

Paralysis / Sleep / Knock out can be achieved with range weapon in the team.
Weakest CC = Bow < Light BG < HBG = Strongest CC
Magda Gemitus is probably the best CC HBG before Iceborn.

Traps only works on none elder. However, they are very good in terms of CHAIN CC against monsters.
