Insect Glaive Progression
Question for all you Glaivers out there....Which starting Glaive and path did you choose to start out?

What is your favourite type Kinsect?

I really only use the Jho Glaive when I did use glaive, and my favorite kinsect is psuedocanth, followed by carnage beetle and true dragon soul

I used the Dodogama glaive paired with the Psuedocanth kinsect for the longest time, with the occasional Datura Blade/Carnage Beetle. This was before I got Gae Bolg/True Gae Bolg and True Dragon Soul. It's the only set I really use now.

Start with iron and get to the Kulu-ya-ku tree. Once you reach tobi-kadachi, you will use his tree for most of the game until you defeat nergigante. Farm nergigante until you can make the nergal reaver, which will take you through the rest of the campaign. Afterwards you can upgrade the reaver then to catastrophee's light. From there you'll begin the endgame where the three main IGs you will want to aim for are the lunastra styx, lunastra ruin and devil jho glaives depending on the armor you have access to. Styx is the lowest maintenance. If you farm the drachen arrmor set from behemoth then Jho and Ruin will be better options. Eventually you'll want to farm Kulve Taroth for the Kjarr paralysis glaive as this is the best general use IG in the game.

For Kinsects your main priority is the speed stat. Pseudocath in particular is your best option overall as it has the highest level speed, good power and blast powder for even more damage.

You honestly should Switch to the Jho glaive, the Gae Bolg is really weak in comparison, and you just need handicraft +1

Like some other already said, start out with iron because iron path always has better sharpness than bone path, upgrade the weapon along the way your progression until you get your hand on JHO then use JHO IG for the rest of the game until you get your hand on endgame weapon.
I still using augumented jho IG over Drachen IG (I don't have Dragon Soul insect because I can not solo BH to end the story), so I'm using the blast dust insect.

I'll consider it. Thanks for the info.

i used the bone tree and went for diablos. i then used it to get the jho and luna ruin glaives.
with luck i will get the kjarr para to replace the luna glaive. that was the most efficient way i found to get all the "good ones." metal might have an easier time through early game but i dont have much experience with it so i cant really say.

jho is the best glaive to use against dragon weak monsters.
kjarr para is the best general use glaive with the ruin taking second place if you dont have that.
diablos is still technically the strongest insect glaive however its limited white sharpness restricts its use to squishy monsters like the great chungus but its fun to keep on the side for those moments.

psuedocanth (explosion moth) and the FF kinsects are the two favorites due to their speed for getting buffs.
I only used the iron one which I then turned into Nerg's glaive.
Pseudocath and Whispervesp are the best ones.

It basically goes using something else until you acquire Drachen and the Gae Bolg, and then that's all you use from then on..

..until Kjarr stuff anyway.

use the elemental weakness of what youre fighting. if youre fighting ATKT, thunder until phase 4, then when she strips use ice glaive

Kjarr Para has the exact same stats as Luna Ruin in an optimized build but trades blast for para. It's one of the 3 best generalist glaives in the game (the other one is Jho).
Kjarr Ice shreds KT in the last area, and upon further testing it is indeed better than Taroth Ice damage wise, not to mention it can run Master's Touch. It should be equally good on Luna and the Diablos.
Kjarr Water is the best glaive against Teo.
Kjarr Spark is good for KT, but otherwise it's hard to find a reason to use it over the top 3.
Kjarr King performs about the same or slightly better than meta glaives on Kirin and Hazak. It might beat them on Ancient Leshen too.
Kjarr Crusher and Decay are trash.

Kjarr Para only has 20 hits white whereas Ruin has 40 which is a factor to consider since both Glaives have high Max Might dependency and you won't always hit a weakspot.
Also Ruin is still higher damage than Para since Blast procs outdamage 1-2 paras.

Assuming optimal play you don't even need the para since you'll always be on the monster's weakspot.

20 is plenty enough for an average run on most monsters. Blast damage only matters if you're a speedrunner, because the 2-3 procs you'll get per hunt are quite miserable otherwise.

Para obviously is a really good choice in multiplayer where blast is useless and the whole team benefits from the para, even if it's only one proc.
